That's not quite correct. ACARS.EXE is contained inside the ACARS install Activex control. It is automatically extracted when the control first executes. There should then be a program called ACARS.EXE in the system or system32 directory. If it's not there, you might check if you have the directory set to read only.
I can e-mail you a copy of the EXE file if you want, Paul but it's about 1M so I don't want to send it w/o your approval.
You mentioned a long download when you "removed" the control and accessed the site - that was the ACARS installer downloading however, either the ActiveX was blocked and it didn't execute or the System dirs are read only or otherwise protected against any exe being created.
