Other things we "discovered" at the Rally was that to get the furthest distance you need to sacrifice altitude for airspeed. By flying low, you stay in ground effect, which of course reduces drag and increases lift, and by not climbing you keep your airspeed high, the basis for making the longest distance with a limited amount of fuel since the flyer required full power to keep airborne.
