Hi, it's been a while since my last post - have been
working two jobs and also having a problem understanding
what I need to do to get the flight rooms to work.I flew into Aspen yesterday (a little late, I know) and
used the flip chart booklet, U.S.Terminal Procedures,
Southwest, vol 1 of 2. The approach to rwy 15 starts at
Red Table VOR (DBL) at 14,000', then fly 164 deg.
altitudes are 12,700 at 3 nm from DBL, 12,200 at 6 nm,
10,400 at 9.5 nm then you're only 2-3 mi out.
There is no mention of a published approach for Rwy 33
although if you approach the localizer on 300 deg and turn to 330 over the station, you will be lined up about 13 mi out and have to pass between two hills on short final (you're on your own).
The minimum safe altitude from that direction is
15,500 at 25 mn.
I flew a Lockheed Constellation and came in too high.
There was a conflict with the AI traffic taking off in
the opposite direction so I went for the grass <g> and
made it in ok.
Holiday Greetings
