Hi Andy,

Roger, catch you in flight :-).

Yep, seen Al's pic's. There's a 737/767 Simulator not far from where I live but, it's a bit pricey for my liking :-)

Hi Emile,

I'm all prepared (nearly) :-) Just the flight plan to load into the FMC :-) Flying the 737 for this one in 2 stages. EGNM to KBGR and then KBGR to KDEN. Still can't remember if FSNAV's fuel calculations are for a single engine or what. If I don't make it then you all know I've ran out of fuel en route :-)

A bit late for that flight James, but for future reference why not use a 'proper' 737 fuel planner if you have MS Excel?

Remember that the runway at Reykjavik is a bit short, at least if you are using it as an alternative to Keflavik. :)

Hi TD,

Yep, it is short but Lee and I once put a 747 down on it :-) Didn't say we took off again though <LOL>.

I'll try and make it. Will be returning from NZAA in a
Lockheed Constellation. Six legs. The last one will
be KPVU, Provo, Utah to KDEN.

This might not exactly be the place to ask this question, but because it happened on my early fly-in to KDEN, here goes:

Is there a way to get out of the Approach ATC menu once you have taken a handoff? I ask, because I contact KDEN when I was 40 miles out, getting ready to listen to them guide me into the Rainy Wonder, and evidently picked the wrong menu selection. I managed to get lined up, and free-styled the landing (although the engines on the X-wing, even at no-throttle were enough to have me moving too fast to land on a 10k-foot-long runway. All the while, I am waiting for the bitching and chewing, and the screen says, "no message to transmit to Denver Approach". Closing the window and reselecting the ATC option did nothing to break me out of the locked-in situation.

Hi TD,

Yes, once you select an airport to land (which you did but now didn't want) there is an option to cancel in the ATC window. Click on the cancel instruction and fly to your original destination. It is there as I have used it. Can't remember exactly what it say's but it's there.

No... there is no option for that.

I was set up, had the ATC window open and requested a handoff from Class D airspace I believe. Now, the only options I have on the screen are 1) request full stop; and 2) request touch and go. Selection of either, using either the number keys at the top of the keyboard, or from the numberpad does not result in a selection. Even though I am a couple hundred miles outside the range of the ATC I "spoke with" initially, I am unable to anything.

Granted, I am sure that I could reset the flight, but was wondering if I was the only one who had found this "undocumented feature" in the Pro version of the software.

Hi TD,

I think you'll find it's Class B Airspace <s>. I ain't gonna nit pick over it though <G>.

Right, with those 2 options the only ones available then your course of action way well be to select a full stop or touch and go. Once selected you can then cancel this under ATC and revert back to your original destination.

Funny thing with ATC and FS2002 <G>. Carrying out the above action will then eleviate the neccesity to re start the flight.

Not sure whether it is B or D, thought it was the latter. There is no way to cancel it in my version. I tried picking either the full or the touch and go, that got me nothing; closing the ATC window and opening it again with the ` key just gets those same damn options back; so far the only way to get it to stop is to completely reset the flight (there are no other options, and no keystrokes that I can find in the HELP section to reverse the process. Am I missing something, or is it something that got addressed with the patch release?

Thanks CON,

Sorry if I sounded testy. In the dim past when the world ran on DOS rather than WINDOS, there were times that the switches like sys /c or /p or similar commands would fail. I would ask my buddies if they were sure, they would demo on their systems, and then infer that I must be a complete moron for not having it work... Then, sometimes it would work when demoed for them on my system, sometimes it would fail, and of all the flaws in the system, the intermittent ones are the worst to try solving.

Anyway, this was the third time I have had this pop up in my flights: twice on the way to KDEN, and once last month on my way to NZ. I am beginning to think the ATC guys have me on a list from the VFAA... :D

Hi TD,

Sorry for the delay on this but been busy :-)

Right, in ATC when you select an Airport to land at or do a touch and go then you realise that you've done the wrong thing then to cancel this go back into the ATC window @ and the last option is to cancel the landing or touch and go. Once you have cancelled then recontact ATC for flight following.

I've just done this in different locations and in different aircraft.

Hi James,
As this is my first VPC Rally flight I decide to avoid the long trip from EBBR Brussels to Denver(my wife did refuse to assist me as Air Hostess ,she says its to dangerous). I will fly from Salt Lake City to Denver, I will fly an Embraer RJ 85 Brussels Airlines. I just made the trip to test my capabilities (it's my first flight with a jet and autopilot) using the "Getting to know George" article I found in the VPC Magazine, congratulations to Brett its a good explanation.
It was almost a success (am I clever!! LOL)I only did miss the runway 10 feet left .
But Oh BOY what a STRESS !!

In my best Maxwell Smart voice, "Missed it by that much."
:)

No worries, Emile. For most folks, it's the trip that counts. Unlike in the real world, landings are of secondary concern. :)

Actually, we just posted a couple of new links to FAA videos on crosswind, short field and soft field landings. Perhaps they'll help too.

Best!

Ben

Hello All,
I made a new preparation test of my Rally flight using the VPC Terminal and I have a few questions
1/ Do I have to "load" my flight plan ? it seams it is NOT automatically loaded despite the fact that I did load the flight that I did save
2/ Where is the ATC control we normally have for flight plan copy, take off AND landing?
3/ Do you know if the fact that changing the radio frequencies on the terminal screen , which activates RogerWilco can influence the flight?? because I did change (click") the different frequencies and my aircraft did start looping and soon and finally crashed?

Questions from a starter

Emile

Hi Emile,

1. FS2002 should load in whatever you save although this could be debateable :-) I find it best to start up FS with whatever aircraft, time of day and location then load in a flight plan. The later we will discus in 2.

2. If I understand this correctly :-) Once FS is up and running and you are using FS2002's Flight Planner then you now need to load in the flight plan. You can then go into the ATC window and you will see an option to "File for IFR" or some thing along those lines :-) You can then start your flight. One bit of advice/warning on the IFR side as I see it, you have to follow exactly the filed route or they boot you off IFR and you then revert to VFR. I've tried this a number of times and the flight plan I have in FSNav is identical to the one in FS's flight planner. On take off I tend to fly on a straight out heading for upto 5-8 nm. Not so in ATC, they tend to turn you OFF your planned route shortly after your gear leave the runway <G>.

If you are not 100% user friendly with your Auto Pilot yet try and stay clear if the IFR ATC side of FS2002.

3. Haven't looked/tried this side of Terminal yet so I can't comment.

James (CONman) Anderson

Greetings Emile:

Perhaps I an help.

> 1/ Do I have to "load" my flight plan ? it seams it is NOT automatically
> loaded despite the fact that I did load the flight that I did save

This is correct. FS does not automatically load flight plans in multiplayer (MP) mode or after you create a flight plan.

> 2/ Where is the ATC control we normally have for flight plan copy, take
> off AND landing?

ATC is not available in MP mode.

> 3/ Do you know if the fact that changing the radio frequencies on the
> terminal screen , which activates RogerWilco can influence the flight??
> because I did change (click") the different frequencies and my aircraft
> did start looping and soon and finally crashed?

What I think you're seeing is the loss of "focus" of FS when you change channels. What you need to do is use your mouse or cycle with Alt-Tab and select the FS2K2 window again (the title bar at the top of the window should be blue if you're using the stock color scheme). What's happened is when you select a new channel, another application (I suspect either RW or the Flight Terminal window) becomes the active window. If FS is not the active window, you won't have control over your aircraft.

Hope these help!

Ben

Hi Emile,

It's of no importance as from where you took off from it's just the buzz of participating and getting the flight done :-)
What's 10ft in sim terms :-), I've known Lee to hit mountains on approach but there again he had Greenie vectoring him in <LOL>.

The main thing is "Did you enjoy it".
