"America running one minute fast?"

Hi folks,

I notice this in the announcement for the chat tonight:

" Join host James "CONman" Anderson every Saturday at 2359z (Saturday 4pm PT/1pm ET)"

This seems to imply that the American time zones are shifted nearer to us in the UK by a whole minute. Surely this can't be right? Makes time zones in FS even more suspect! <G>

Or is it only that James has his watch running one minute slow?

<GD&R>

Pete

LOL, nope it's just that on a 24 hr clock there is no such time as 24:00 it's either 23:59 OR 00:01 :-)

I don't know where you get your 24 hour clocks, but all those I've ever seen most certainly start the day at 00:00, and 00:00Z is quite a respectable time. Otherwise, if your clock jumps from 23:59 to 00:01 it is going to get more and more out of wack! <G>

Get yourself a new one! <G.

LOL! I suspect you're right. The problem is that 00:00 is Sunday, not Saturday. These informal conferences have traditionally been held on Saturdays (in the US), so in a vain attempt to keep it that way we listed it as 2359z <g> . Maybe we can move it back an hour so we can get that extra minute back? <g>

I pointed this out to the MOD years and years ago but, the simple answer to that (from them) was if you were going to charge some one with an offence then the time of 24:00 or 00:00 was unacceptable in a court of law. Hence the 23:59 and 00:01 :-)

Hi Mike,
