I chose Spain as none of the flight rallies to date (FSFORUM/GAMERS) have ever been to this part of the Continent. There are lot's of downloadable Scenery for this area in all versions of FS. There is also some Mesh Terrain Scenery (freeware) available.

So please join the Staff and Crew for this flight. Here's hoping you have a safe and enjoyable flight.

I will be posting a UK departure time along with an IP for any one wishing to join me in a MP Session.

Regards,

James.

Hi James,

Any news on the departure time from UK for Rally #3? And what aircraft type are you thinking of flying?

I was wondxering if we are meant to be flying in a loose formation or just approximately in the same airspace.

Regards
Kit

Hi Kit,

I'll be online from 13:00 and I'll post the IP at this time. The flight I was planning was in the Douglas R4D DC-3 taking around 5hrs 44mins. I'm not expecting every one to fly along side :-) as I'm using ADSL and others no doubt will be on standard modem speed :-)

Will leave times of joining up to individuals but you are more than welcome to join me.

Regards,

James.

will your flight be using FS2002 or FS98?

How fast is your DC-3 (Mach value / KIAS at which FL)?

Guido

Hi Guido,

I'll be flying FS2002 (only one installed at present). DC-3 is 140/150kts at 11000ft (FSNav Flight Plan) Don't ask me the Mach value :-)

James

Hi Pete,

I thought I'd ironed it out yesterday but I'm still getting them. The system's (Clients) keep crashing after the first 20 Mins with "Out of Memory" error. Re-start FS without a reboot and it seems to clear up? I did adjust the Config settings on each of the clients by un checking Blocking mode and changing the Update rate to 15 and Buffer to 5. Still get the "Out of Memory" error though so I'm back to square one :-(

After only 20 minutes? That's bad -- something must be leaving a trail of un-freed memory blocks in that case! We need to determine if it's in FS, WidevieW, or even FSUIPC itself -- I think WidevieW accesses the AWI directly now.

If WidevieW is still using memory files for transferring data to FSUIPC, rather than the direct internal interface, then if it is making a new one for each call rather than re-using the same one over and over, that could explain it. Especially is they aren't getting closed.

Doesn't Mel use WidevieW a lot, for multiple views on umpteen screens? Have you cross-checked to make sure you are using the same versions of WidevieW with the same settings?

The only thing I recall about memory leaks in FS, at least after the "Gold" (there were more before), was something about texture sizes. Having them on anything but maximum size, or something. I tried to find the related messages on the Bete newsgroup, but they must've scrolled off now.

What does Luciano say?

Pete

Hi Pete,

Thanks for your interest in this my friend. As I said previously I thought I'd cured it, wrong :-(

Got a reply from Luciano telling me to turn off System Restore option (Win XP). This I have done and would you credit it, I've now had the systems running on all pc's for 4 1/2 hrs now with NO crashes of "Out of Memory" or any other error :-)

I have queried this with Luciano as I personally don't see why having System Restore unchecked should make the difference, but hey, I ain't a programmer :-) No doubt I can live with it though just for piece of mind in not having to start a flight 3 hrs before I should just to iron out the crashes :-)

Funny that it only really effects the sims for the first 1 - 2 hrs?! If you do happen to come up with any thing I'd be happy to either read about it or try it out :-)

James

Hmmm. Well I'm a programmer, and I have no idea what the "system restore" option does. I don't have XP of course. Maybe it's something which keeps copies of your registry or something, and WidevieW is making changes to the registry all the time? I don't see why though. I'd be interested in an explanation some time if you get one!

Pete

Hi Pete,

Well I thought this was resolved as I had no crashes for 3 hrs or more. Left my system for an hour and a half and started a return flight. 24 mins into it and hey what ya know Out of Memory crashes on the first pc, 2 mins later another 2 went the same way?? All have the System Restore option un checked.

Sent another note to Luciano to see what gives?!

What system restore basically does is if say I load drivers for one thing or other or the system doesn't boot up for one reason or another then I can set the restore a day or two back (more if needed) and re boot.

So presumably it's monitoring registry changes as I suggested. But why would widevieW affect it I wonder?

Pete

It not only monitors registry changes, but monitors file changes on your whole system. It leaves data such as office docs, email, etc alone, but if you do a restore and use a point prior to a program being loaded, that program will no longer exist. It's a GREAT tool. Too bad it seems to be messing with wideview :(

Hi Mike,

>> It not only monitors registry changes <<

Glad you sorted this one out so to speak :-) and I don't think it is the Reg Restore as I'm still getting them darn errors with them switched off. I know Mel uses XP (?) etc etc but he hasn't responded to my post as yet :-(

I suppose so :-) and haven't had a reply back from Luciano as yet. Even after turning the options off and rebooting I'm still getting them and only when using widevieW?!
