"Luciano Napolitano's WideView for FS2002 is AVAILABLE !"
Posted by Tarmack on 01-13-02 at 23:10z
Gang,
Without Luciano Napolitano's WideView software, I would be spending more time on the links, more time under the belly of my airplane wiping off oil and grease, or perhaps more time doing "windows" for the wife.
But BECAUSE of Luciano's talents........and the ability to spread the beauty of FS2002 over 12 monitors, at last count<g>, I am spending much more time in my home cockpit.
Luciano just released his new upgrade for FS2002 today..and I am proud to say that the beta that I had was not changed one bit.....it works like a charm!
To get your copy.........
http://spazioweb.inwind.it/wideview/wideview_downloads.htm
...simply proceed to the that URL....and please send a thank you note to Luciano after the download.....he should be SELLING this program instead of just giving it away!
Regards,
Cap'n Tarmack

Would ya take a minute and update me on how you are runing the 12 monitors? I've got 4 19" monitors on this rig (one video card no longer supported) and I'm looking for another solution.

I am looking at the D/L page now... can ya tell me what FSUIPC is and where I get it?
As always, THANKS and don't forget...
Have Fun! (tm)

Hi Gun's,I have 5 pc's all networked with 2 on Matrox G450 DualHead Video Cards with the others on standard Vid Cards. Not bad for the clobber I run on it for FS2002
There are better cards out there for dual monitors but cant remember their names of the top of my head.
Regards,
James.

James,
>I'm on 7 monitors so he's 5 up on me
Nope, I think we are dead even !
I run the Matrox G-550 Dualhead card on ALL of my 7 computers.....to power the 14 monitors.
It allows me to use 2 15" monitors as ONE 30 inch monitor....as the Dualhead card supports 2048x760 graphics........even on a TFT monitor that can only do 1024 graphics.
You gotta see it to believe it. Grin. There are NEW drivers out for all of the Matrox cards when running WinXP...and these are the drivers that allow you to "puff up" them screens !
Again.......I WISH I could POST a PICTURE on this forum to show yah !

Mel

From Mel:
Here is a picture I took today of my cockpit........and while it only shows 10 monitors.....the other ones just can't be captured within the view of the camera.
The only reason that there are some color differences in a couple of the monitors is that I had not updated my Time/Date feature of Wideview for a couple of hours.
I admit to being kind of a "nut" with this stuff <g> but I gotta tell you that I have spent more than a few hours........just SITTING in this cockpit and NOT flying.
I go to an airport where there is some major weather feature that day.........whether it be a blizzard or a thunderstorm........or whatever....and position myself in the airplane at a runway where I can see the WINDSOCK.
I then load up RealWeather or even the default MS weather online feature..........set in the correct time of day for the airport.....and then watch the windsock change its position and velocity.......watch the clouds race across the screen due to the winds....and of course turn up the sound to hear the precipitation that is falling.......if it is rain. Grin.
I have only heard SNOW fall one time in my life.......it was while taking a "whiz' outside my farm home on a VERY still winter night with heavy snow falling........you COULD hear the rustle of the snow flakes.
Regards,
Mel

Gunner,Go ahead.....just "do" that download from Luciano.
Go ahead....go to www.magenta.com\dowson and download FSUIPC. Pete Dowson's FSUIPC is about, if not, OLDER than you are.....and it allows FS2002 and the other older versions to "port" out some very valuable position and other info into your LAN where your new aquisitions........will eagerly digest them........as you follow the recommendations of the very next paragraph. Grin.
Go ahead and borrow about 10 grand from Randi.....so you can purchase at least 6 more TFT monitors and at least 3 more computers that run at least 800 mhz. Don't worry about the video cards they come with because........
Go ahead and order 3 G-550 Dualhead video cards from Matrox and stick them in.
Read all of the doc's. Grin.
If you are using WinXP you already know the ease of setup of a LAN.
I WISH I could upload a "picture" of my setup here....to show you that IT IS ALL WORTH IT.
However there are several views on Luciano's website download area that ought to give you the big picture of what I am trying to say with words.
Or.........if you have that bulbulous "Burb" yet from Chevy....haul your patoot down here to Merritt Island and take a look. Grin.

Mel

Hi Mel,Just downloaded and installed the latest Wideview but for some reason can't get it to run with the other pc's? I'm using Win XP and IPX/XPX is installed on all. Are you running Win XP and how have you gotten all your setup to follow your main pc (if ya know what I mean
)

James.

Be sure that you have the VERY latest version of FSUIPC.dll from Pete Dowson..... get it at........
www.magenta.com/dowson
I am using WinXP........and LOVE it.
If you need any further help........just let me know.......you can also access Luciano's WideView support forum.......I think there is a link to it on his regular page where you downloaded the latest version of WideView for FS2002.

Hi Mel,Thank's mate, mine is about the same but will check again. How have you got IPX/SPX set up?
Regards,
James.
p.s. Got one working upto now

James,
Well, I didn't do a thing to IPX/SPX.......just let WinXP set everything up on the original install of that OS.
It would be easier to show you a picture/graphic of my WideView config file.......but until the extra server is setup here for graphic files that will have to wait.....unless you would like me to send you an Email with those views? However, if you have ONE working....I don't think it will be long until you get them all in synch and singing from the same page!

Mel

James,
SUPER !!
You know this just got better in WideView with the ability to run EITHER in Pause or Slew mode.
I have always loved the "Dusk" settings where the sun is just touching the horizon and ready to set.....but the trouble was it never lasted LONG enough.....because it soon got dark.
Presto.....if you use the Pause mode to run your clients......your Dusk setting STAYS for as long as you fly........with the SAME great hues and sunset shadows for the Grand Canyon or whereever you are flying at !!
Plus.......with no need for FS2002 to have to UPDATE its scenery via time changes........with all of that new texture drawing required to show shadows and terrain changes .......your clients keep their speed up and don't enter that 'blurring mode".
Regards,
Mel
