Posted by tiger on 12-29-01 at 12:08z
Hello to all Can anyone tell me please why over Paris (France) the FPS drops to near 2 or 3 although I have the settings of the FS2002 in the medium and over the rest of the globe this situation never hapens.
My machine is;
Pentium III 800MHZ
256 MB RAM
NVIDIA TNT 2
Sound Blaster
Happy New Year to all virtual pilots
Best regards
Tiger

Hi TigerThe reason your are experiencing such a low frame rate is firstly Paris has lots of buildings and high detail scenery that your computer has to render. Also your graphics card is unfortunately not the fastest one out and can't cope with all the 3D redering that Paris (or any other high detail area in FS2002).
To help improve performance I suggest you go into the Display options in FS2002 and turn down some of the options. Secondly make sure you have an up to date version on nVidias Detenator drivers available from http://www.nVidia.com
Hope that helps
Sam

Hi Tiger,>> Can anyone tell me please why over Paris (France) the FPS drops to near 2 or 3 although I have the settings of the FS2002 in the medium and over the rest of the globe this situation never hapens. <<
Have you by any chance got any wind or cloud turbulence at that time, and AI traffic enabled? I got extremely low frame rates over Northern France too, and found after experiment that the combination of high AI traffic rates (with AI set to maximum there were about 98 aircraft flying in that region!) and turbulence *anywhere* in the weather, is the cause.
I asked Microsoft about this and they said that normally the weather is cached for speed, but when there's turbulence it isn't, so there is a lot of interaction between the weather part of FS and the simulation engine, for every single aircraft (NOT just your own).
There's no way around this except either to severely reduce the amount of AI traffic, or to get rid of turbulence. To make the latter easier I added facilities to suppress all cloud turbulence and all wind turbulence (separately) in the latest edition of FSUIPC (version 2.80).
Hope this helps.

Pete

Pete,
A bit off thread......but it sure is GOOD to see you at FlightAdventures!!
Without your FSUIPC....it would have been a very dreary year indeed....for the past several...and for the future!
Welcome!

Mel

Thanks. I've been lurking, but I'm not here that often. I still find it very awkward scanning for ONLY new messages, ones I've not read. (Can it be done?).

Pete

There are actually severals to do this. Once you're a register (which you have), you'll be able to use features called "Mark" and "Mark All." After reading messages, you can click "Mark" or "Mark All" and anything on the board at that time will be marked read (white folder icons).
The next time you return, threads with unread messages, and unread message will be indicated by yellow folder icons and yellow page icons next to them.
We have anothe featured called "Read New" (an icon at the top center on the first Forums page) will display only the threads with new messages in them.
It may sound confusing, but go ahead and click around and you'll see how it works.
BTW, if you or others are used to offline readers such as OZwin, we should have a beta of our OLR ready soon to test.
Hope this helps!
Ben

I think I've been doing that in any case. But it operates on threads. I just want to scan through NEW messages, not try to find them in threads I know have new messages. Is this possible? It's so long-winded otherwise.

Pete

If you click Read New, just click on the thread, however, note that there are two ways to do this. If you click on the thread title, you'll be presented with the original message and a tree of messages. The unread messages(s) will be in yellow. You can click/jump to those messages individually.
If you click the unread thread's View All option which will load all messages in the thread.
Another option is to set you preference to Fully Threaded view, where all messages will appear with the unread ones highlighted.
The web based software doesn't pull individual messages (it stores them by thread). The OLR looks like it'll do what I think you're looking for.

Hi Pete Thank you for your reply.
Yes I have wind and clound turbulence over the Paris region, and as you said it could be the cause of the low frame rates I have, because the AI Trafic is set to 40% more or less and the Dynamic Scenery is at Medium, and with this settings I fly all over the world with frames at 12 to 24 no matter what airport.
I will clear the weather over the Paris region to see what´s happening.
Thank you and a happy New Year
Best regards
Tiger
