"Very Impressed with FS2K2!"
Posted by Madape on 12-12-01 at 12:12z
Hi AllI finally managed to spend 60 of my student pounds on this great sim, and its definitely worth it, I am extremely impressed with the new graphics, ATC etc.
I am a bit dissapointed with my frame rate of 25 - 30 FPS although I am running an 800Mhz, 320 RAM, gonna have to test it out on one of my neighbours faster machines!
I used to be an avid X-Plane fan, although that seems to have changed!

I run an Athlon 1.4 and I have it locked at 20fps. No stutters and smooth flights. I ran it at 50+ and saw no real change in flight mode but the scenery suffers as FS2K2 tries to maintain the frame rate. 18-20 is very realistic and you should see no flickers, If you try to push the fps to max, you get a big hit in the scenery with no apparent gain in flight.
There are several discussions re the locked frame rate on the other flightsim forums.

Hi Vic,Thanks for your suggestions, I've found Frame Rate to be a very personal opinion, as I play alot of 3d Shoot ups such as Unreal Tournament, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, I am used to quite high frame rates 40FPS +.
The thing that bugs me off is that the flight is lovely smooth, but the instruments stutter like crazy! I have to admit I like the graphics on high
, its no real problem as I fly VFR mainly.
Thanks again
Sam

The 747 panel stutters badly but there is a fix out there. The others I've tried seem to work fine. But, as you said, framerates are a purely subjective matter.

Hi Sam,I agree about the instruments stuttering now. It's almost like MS switched things around this time. Priority on flight and external graphics. With the gauges taking the hit.

I've got a 1 gig Athlon, 256 meg of memory and a GeForce2MX400.
I don't have a complaint about the gauges. They just don't seem quite as smooth previous versions.

Hi Randy,I just wanted to compare them to my system, it seems we have a very simialr system, exact same graphics card.
Cheers
