"FS2k2, A/P & sticks"

Is anyone else having problems with the A/P in FS2k2 when their joystick is enabled?

An on line flight on Saturday ended in disaster when the A/P totally ignored a holding altitude and the G/S.

The following day had me experiment to see what had gone wrong and by elimination it looks as if my stick overcomes the A/P. If I disable the stick the flight will go smoothly, including a great auto land.

Before anyone jumps in with the obvious 'keep the stick disabled', I prefer to have the stick ready just in case.

The only time had similar problems in FS2k was with the PSS a/c and the 767PIC.

Any helpful suggestions appreciated.

Try increasing the null zone on the stick. If you have a dirty pot, the noise might be interfering with the AP. That helped my with the PIC767 in FS2K

Thanks Mike, because I did not have the problem in FS2k I had resisted increasing the null zone but will go back into FSUIPC and increase it in stages and see if it helps.

I use the SAITEK X36 combo and like the stick apart from the fact that it still uses pots instead of optical sensors...ah well.

Sancho, hope you get your problem sorted soon.

Hi Vulcan,

I have got the exact same stick throttle combo as you, Saitek recently sent me some updated drivers in the post, and I believe they are now live on thier website,its a long shot but I suggest you try updating the new drivers;

Saitek's Website UK

Thanks for the 'heads up' Sam, I will fly over there once I have finished down loading the FS2k2 scenery for Tokyo, and the new scenery for Santiago.

I was very impressed with the FS2k version of Santiago that I just have to have the FS2k2 version :-)

Sam,

Just had a look at the UK site and I cannot see anything I have not already got.

If the files were the 'new' SGE V3 files I already have them, if not what files are they?

Hmmm, well I had the same prob a similar to yours my jotstick didnt respond properly in FS2K.

I rang up Saitek and they sent me some of these BETA drivers on CD-R (about a month ago). Maybe you have these drivers already, if you could tell me which version you have, I could compare it to the one on the CD-R Saitek sent me.

Cheers

Sam

Hi Mike,

After a reset using FSUIPC last night, and an initial test run it looks like your suggestion works, and I still have some movement left in the stick. LOL!

Just you watch, when I fire up FS this evening it will have drifted off again :-)

Excellent! I'm glad it was simple ;-)

Hi Vulcan,

I have problems as well, using Sidewinder ForceFeedback Pro. However, the problems are different. After having used the autopilot and then disabling it a few seconds before touchdown, the throttle on the stick no longer has any effect and I have to use the keyboard F1 and F2 to reduce to idle and go into reverse. I am getting the impression that we have to wait for a fix from MS. Happy landings.

Hi Vulcan

Have you tried configuring your stick using Pete Dowson's FSUIPC? It made an amazing difference to my brother-in-law's.

Also, if it is the wing leveller problem, Pete has a solution for that. You need to include two additional lines under in the aircraft.cfg files for each aircraft concerned. I can tell you what these lines are if you think they will help.

Regards
Frank

I have not tried this yet. I do have Pete's FSUIPC and the doc and I will try this.

I know about the additional autopilot entries, and yes, I have them included. Thank you. Happy landings.

Sancho,

FSUIPC gives much better control of stick settings than FS, be sure to read Pete's documentation and don't forget to add the 'locked=1' line to fs2002.cfg file. This prevents FS from overwriting your settings.
I also set the null and range figures to those suggested before using FSUIPC to set the stick.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestion Frank but I am already using FSUIPC, as I did in FS2k and FS98 :-)

It looks like Mike's suggestion of increasing the null zone from what it was has done the trick.

I am aware of the two lines to add to the auto-pilot section, however I recently read that the default set-up is how it is in real life (i.e. wing leveler is on when A/P is on) but to turn the a/c yourself just turn FD off and that will override the leveller.

Yes, but I believe that is not the case with the Cessnas and possibly others.
