"Hi from Rick Lee"

Hi all... I dropped into the old GAMERS forum to see what was shaking in the wake of FS2002... boy was I surprised to see it was shutting down. Anyway, I'm glad to see that the great staff has landed on their feet someplace else. I hope this group does well. I'll be poking around and posting a few questions and comments about FS2002 in the near future.

Good to see you here, Rick. I posted over in the GAMERS forum but I'm glad to see that you actually beat me over here. Look around - I'm sure you'll find much to your liking. And this is just the beginning....!!!!***Reality - the refuge of those who can't handle simulation***

Hey Rick,WOW, what a great surprise to see your post here this morning! Yeah, ole AOL/Time Warner really screwed us over. What a shame. I'm sure you'll find this place to your liking though. If you have any comments or questions, please feel free! We're building this place from the ground up, and it's been a group effort!
See you around!

Say Greenie... I've been trying to help out this guy over on Simflight.com to do that FS history project. I've been going through a bunch of my old text files from the early days of Compuserve. I've got tons of stuff saved (files and thousands of message threads) going back to before FSFORUM and before we had a section on GAMERS. We started out hanging out in the SubLOGIC section of the Game Vendors Forum. I've got stuff from 89 through 95 but there's a weird gap in my stuff around 91 which is when the first Ithaca conference was. Do you (or anybody else) have the file ITHREP.TXT which is the report I wrote up about that conference? It is not inthe Compuserve files. Rick Lee

I'll check my archives in the morning. I *should* have it...no guarantees though. Some stuff seems to have slipped through the cracks.

Hey Rick,Bad news bud...I don't have the file. I took on the task of archiving all of FSFORUM before the consolidation back to GAMERS. Unfortunately, that was after numerous times we had to cull files due to lack of library space. It seems that the Ithica Report was one that was lost many moons ago. It's unfortunate because one of the criteria for keeping a file was historical significance. I most certainly would have put the report in that category.

Thanks for looking. I can't believe I don't have that file myself. Man... I kept all kids of stuff. I have all sorts of printouts too but I can't find it in any of that either. If you are in contact with any other guys who were around in the early 90's, try to pass the word that I need that. The original filename was ITHREP.TXT. Rick Lee

Greenie... I was digging through some conference materials from that original CPAA conference at Cornell Univ... and I found a newsletter that had my ITHREP.TXT file printed in it. I just scanned it and put it through the OCR. So I've got that little bit of history saved now. Rick Lee

I sent you a file, but then I decided to fix it up a bit and post it on my web site. I'm trying to get (little by little) more of the history stuff on my web site. Rick Lee www.rickleephoto.com

Hi Rick, Great to see you're still around. I think it was 10 years ago that you introduced me to Gamers shortly before FS Forum started.

>Rick Lee www.rickleephoto.com Yes I still have it! it was a Compaq 386 with an 80mb HD. I forget what speed processor it has. I think it was valued at around $3,000. I recently bought a used Dell notebook - a P166MMX with a 3GB HD, 64k RAM, 12.1" tft, complete with CD ROM and 56K modem, with sound and video cards and a nice carrying case for $400 (US)!
How are things in Charleston? I usually think of you when I'm heading through WV on my way to/from Florida every winter. However I normally take the shorcut - US19 down to Beckley instead of going through your hometown.

Video... I'll always remember how impressed I was that Microsoft arranged to give away such a huge prize for that scenery contest. Back in those days a color notebook was a rarity. Looking back though, I'm glad that I got the leather jacket instead. I can still use MY prize!
It's a great leather flight jacket with the FS logo embroidered on the back. I think it's the logo from FS3. Come to think of it, you can see that jacket at www.rickleephoto.com/rlfs.htm. I got a new leather jacket and I don't wear the FS jacket much any more... but I wore it all winter for several years. At first I was kinda embarassed to wear it in public, but lemme tell you, you can meet some interesting people going around with an FS logo on your back. Perfect strangers would come up to me and ask about the jacket. Sometimes they were FS fanatics and sometimes they were just curious. It was fun to wear it... sometimes I felt like a celebrity. Do you ever stop at Tamarack in Beckley? You can see some of my photography in there.

Hey Rick - Still flying choppers? The fs2k2 versions are better (but I still can't get the hang of it!). Glad to see you here.

Hey Vic and Conman... right now I'm not flying choppers. But only because I don't have my controls set up. I put away the old Thrustmaster controls about a year ago because I was getting into digital photography (professionally) and was needing to use that computer for Photoshop all the time. I wasn't too fond of FS2000 so I never got around to getting it set up again. Now that FS2002 is here, I'm trying to get set up with all new controls. I don't want to go back to using the crappy old analog potentiometer devices with all the spikes and drifting and crap. I am currently just using an old CH yoke to fly light planes with. I have ordered a CH Flightyoke USB. I have put a complete set of USB gear.. stick, throttle, and pedals... on my Christmas list so by the end of December I should be all set to fly the helicopter again. I'm really looking forward to it. This scenery is too amazing. It'll be great to be able to use it with a chopper. Rick Lee

Hi Rick,I'm into all sorts in FS2002 at present <g>. Getting to grips with all the Project Magenta stuff by Enrico Schiratti. Just so as you know you'll love the Bell when you eventually get it in the air
