Makes it easy to do a clean boot when needed - or to disable startup items selectively.As far as the virus stuff goes - you really only need disable it when installing. It can run in the bg after that if it makes you happy. Most virii these days are transmitted by email attachments or downloaded files. If you set your system to scan those things when you use them you should be perfectly safe. MacAfee and Norton and others have been making millions for years by promoting paranoia.
