"More from Jeff Drake" 09-09-02, 15:56z  More from Jeff Drake: ================================= The details are still a bit sketchy, but apparently Kirk and his young girlfriend were travelling south of Lubbock at about 3 am Friday morning when he or she lost control of the car. They were in his 2002 Dodge Viper, apparently driving at a very high rate of speed. The DPS report shows that the car left the west side of the road, nosed into the ditch, and flipped end-over-end, for over 1/4 mile. The two were not even found until 8 am. The car was completely unrecognizable. Autuopsies are still, to my knowledge, pending to see if alcohol was a contributing factor. It is highly unlikely that Kirk were driving while intoxicated, considering the fact that he was to fly in an airshow at Lubbock International the very next day. We think that the local news media is just making news since his family is very prominent in town. It is also highly unlikely, given any speed that car can acheive, that Kirk, a former Indy car racer, would lose it without something going terribly wrong with the car. We don't know, but this was such a shock that everyone around him and his family is struggling for answers. As more details become available we will keep you informed. Kirk's funeral will be on Wednesday, 9/11, in Lubbock. Thanks Again, Jeff Drake apparently driving at a very high rate of speed.
