The following message has been circulating in the newsgroups. It was written by Joe Jurecka, Author of Squawkbox.

"Request of the flight simulator community"
To the flight simulator community,
I've been monitoring this developing action with SATCO for
many weeks now...gathering information from several
individuals. It absolutely amazes me how greed in leadership
can spoil. It saddens me to see folks like Harvey and Jim and
the others that have left. But I cannot argue their decision
at all as I view them as very reputable, honest, and sincere
people. While I haven't been in the spotlight, I remain
active in the direction of where the sytem is going.
From what I have gathered, both publically at their web site
at www.satco.org/donations.htm and privately with several
individuals, SATCO is in violation of the user agreement that
I had for the Squawkbox product.
This agreement is visible at:

and has been there since early last year. You can clearly see
that donations without consent and profit making are clearly a
violation. The development group has provided no such consent
to any organization.
I have watched the executive leader at SATCO attempt to turn
the organization into a profit machine once before. I set
things straight and kept my eye on them.
While the executive leader at SATCO has pocketed monies in
excess of $3000USD, the development team has received $0
(ok, well, we might have received a t-shirt or two from some
fellow users out of their own pocket.)
Let me make clear that the entire SATCO organization is not
at fault here. The clear majority of people are using their
system in the manner for which it was intended.
In light of these events, I respectfully request those who
have a conscience and disagree individuals exploiting the
thousands of hours that the development team has put into the
effort (without compensation out of love for the hobby) to
take action in the following ways until such time as the
executve leadership of SATCO changes personnel to the satisfaction
of the development team.
1. Discontinue all use of the SATCO servers for PC/SB.
There is another organization which you may use for flying online
www.ivao.org. At present, this organization has made no
attempt to profit from the work of the developers.
2. Boycott the SATCO convention (Perhaps those of you who
have already purchased airfare consider touring other
attractions in the Kansas City area. There is a lot of
western heritage (and great steakhouses) in the area.)
3. Write to Mr. Whistler, the executive leader of Satco
stating your disapproval of action, demanding the monies be
returned (in full) to those who donated..including any
transactions fees and calling for his resignation.
I realize that these are serious steps, but the violations
are serious in nature as well. The violation undermines the concept
of freeware. SATCO's members have done a great deal to
advance the hobby. I hope those have contributed positively in
the past continue to do so.
Legal action is being considered at this time if the monies
are not promptly returned.
