"I'm back!!"
01-26-02, 19:57z

Hi folks -

Just reporting in that my machine is now back from the hospitqal and - thankfully - I lost no data while the 'experts' helped me recover from trying to change a minor annoyance...

Unhappily - this disaster occured just before Patti's conference :( but, now, all is well and I'm nearly caught up with business requirements that went untended to for about 10 days.

It looks like message traffic has picked up here since I have been away - Great!!

And that navaid trainer posted in the Ground School section is awesome!!

Cheers, Jerry (N94)

Well, there's a good excuse for having a second system (aside from building a home cockpit!). :)

Hi Jerry -

PCs for Everyone: News

January 26, 2002
Upgrade your old Slot-1 motherboard to 1.2GHz!
We have a TERRIFIC new product from PowerLeap that actually lets you add a 1.2GHz processor to an older Pentium II/III Slot-1 motherboard. Everyone thought this couldn't be done, but PowerLeap has found the answer. With the PowerLeap PL-iP3/T slocket adapter you can add a modern 1.2GHz Celeron processor (which runs at 100MHz FSB and has 256k internal L2 cache just like the former generation of Pentium-III processors) to your existing motherboard. Upgrade for substantially less $$ than what it would cost to get a new PC. Use this adapter with an Intel processor (Tualatin or Coppermine type) that runs at an FSB speed supported by your existing motherboard. For example: You have an older slot-1 motherboard (maybe an Intel BX chipset) computer running a P-II or P-III 400MHz CPU, which indicates that your FSB speed is 100MHz and your processor is running at 4 times the FSB. (100MHz x 4 = 400MHz; Are you with me?) So, because your motherboard supports 100MHz FSB you can get the PL-iP3/T adapter along with a 100MHz FSB Celeron 1.2GHz Tualatin processor and SUBSTANTIALLY boost your system speed. Many of the older slot-1 motherboards don't even have native support for the newer coppermine-core CPUs, never mind the newest Tualatin processors, but with the PL-iP3/T those incompatibilities vanish! Be sure to check the compatibility list to see if your motherboard is compatible.

Regards,

William

Thanks. Sure appreciate it. Now I have to try to find out what kind of Mother Board I have. Time to take the case apart, I guess.:)

Yeah, me too! I've got a PII 450 that was smokin' when I got it and is still great for everything but flight sims. I gotta find out more about this thing, could be a marriage saver!

Me too. I finally got the laptop back up and running again, so I can use it to write up the description of the Sancho Memorial Flight. Amazing what some website crawling and research will do for you in a pinch.
