KaptainKit Certificates/Ratings/Crew Stations: "FS02 be damned!" 01-14-02, 05:43z  I've about had it with FS02. It has so many rarher basic problems that no-one seems to be able to sort out I'm going back to FS98. At least I can start a flight with that! The latest screw-up is trying to position the aircraft at a terminal correctly before saving a flight. I go into 'Slew' mode to get the placement just right, and as soon as I come out of 'Slew' the aicraft shoots off across the ramp at full throttle! It matters not if the brakes are on or not, or even if the engines are switched off, the damn thing starts up and disappears into the distance! What the devil M$ think that is supposed to achieve I have no idea! 2nd thing, why oh why when I switch view directions in 'Slew' does it ALWAYS bring the viewing altitude down to level with the aircraft? If I wanted it down there I would not have started around 40 feet up so could see where the devil I am! 3rd thing, why do different aircraft have different viewing distances in 'Slew'? I start about 400 ft away with a BAC1-11 and switch to a Starliner and find I'm only 80 ft away, and so close I can count the damn rivets! It's ridiculous! 4thly. Where does that damned 'Brakes' sign come from down in the bottom left hand corner and why can't I get them OFF? This is even preseent in the default Meigs flight, when I switch the parking brakes off, that 'Brakes' sign is still there, and it's all the Lycoming can do to get the 172 off the ground before I splash into Lake Michigan. "Remody" - Go into Slew Mode and once you are in the location you want (on the ground) then HIT F1, come out of Slew Mode and hey presto, your stationary. >> why oh why when I switch view directions in 'Slew' does it ALWAYS bring the viewing altitude down to level with the aircraft? << I've just tried this at a few different locations and at various altitudes with the same results, the view stay's where I have it prior to exiting Slew Mode. What flight controls are you using? >> why do different aircraft have different viewing distances << Main one here is the size of the aircraft. Do you set the viewing distance prior to this within Views/View Options then enter a distance in the Distance Dialog Box?? Typically I would set a distance of 400ft or so for a large aircraft and half that for a smaller on. I can't check as I don't have either FS98 or 2000 installed to see what would happen on this option when changing aircraft. >> when I switch the parking brakes off, that 'Brakes' sign is still there, << As far as I'm aware this sign has been present in ALL FS Versions, just in different locations. As Ben pointed out this may well be a set up fault/conflict in Joystick/keyboard settings. I have FS2002 on 5 pc's and all my parking brake's disengage when they are released. Putting all these aside you don't mention what system you use. My slowest pc is a PII 125 and although I get mega low frame rates it installed and runs where as FS2000 will not even install. Open FS2002.CFG and locate the SIM section. Add the following line to remove Brake messages: - show_brake_message=0 Save and exit and you'll never see it again!
