"Baby 744s"
01-06-02, 14:52z

I had never given a thought to the relative sizes of the different aircraft as they appear on MS Flightsims until I began to notice that some of my aircraft appeared smaller than others of the same type, against the same scenery.

My FS2002 default MS B744s are all bigger than the Phoenix Pro 744s that I've imported into the sim. For example, changing between the two aircraft kinds, keeping the same view, the MS wingspan measures 166mm on the screen and the PSS 145mm, a difference of 15%.

I suppose I had wrongly assumed that the same scale factor (whatever that might mean on a PCs display) used to design the various aircraft models for flightsims would be a standard used by all designers. Is this not so? Maybe there's something wrong with my set-up?

Maybe this kind of discrepancy is well-known. But it's new to me. Can anyone tell me how and why it might occur, if others find the same differences, and if there is anything I can do to equalize the scales?

Maurice (UK)

Hi Maurice, I'm sorry I can't help you with your query but would be very interested to know how you set up the PSS747 in FS2002. (I can't find anything on their site.)

Cheers, Dom (YSSY)

Hello Dom,

I simply install PSS in 2002 as one does in 2000 except that I give it an install path to the 2002 folder. PSS won't find that on its own. If I remember rightly, one does that by asking for a customised install where you are able to specify the path.

I don't install any FSS patches because I use the default MS FS2002 panel and controls for my PSS 747s; I prefer the simplified flying and being able to get up and go quicker. Moreover PSS interferes with many of my customised key assignments, which I don't like.

M.

Ok. I just looked again at the site & found some docs concerning FS2002. It set up pretty well with only a couple of glitches.

Cheers, Dom (YSSY)
