"Sancho Memorial Flight"
01-06-02, 13:06z

It was with sadness that we heard of Sancho's passing therefore, I would like to invite you all to a Flight Rally from your own choice of Departure to BELP (LSZB) in the City of BERN - Switzerland on the 20th January 2002.

ATIS 125.12
Tower 119.70 121.02
Approach 127.32
Altitude 1669ft
ILS/DME Rwy 14 110.10 @ 27nm Length 4295ft x 98ft Wide
Approach Course 142 deg.
ILS/DME Rwy 32 110.10 @ 27nm Length 4295ft x 98ft Wide
Approach Course 321 deg.

The expected arrival time is 20:00GMT for a post flight Conference in the Pilots Lounge. Aircraft type will be left upto individual choice but on this occasion I'm flying the R4D-6 DC-3 by Roy Chaffin and RCS.

I am unsure as to whether this Location is depicted in FS98 or FS2000 so individuals will have to check the FS version they have.

Here's hoping that you all join me for this flight. I will be posting an IP Address for any one who wishes to join me via MultiPlayer and RW.

James.

Thanks for the timely info James.

I have just done a check for scenery on avsim, flightsim & VATSIM and there does not appear to be any add-on scenery for Bern for any recent version of FS other than the Apollo 'Europe1' scenery.

There is of course the mesh scenery for Switzerland.

Can I make a request?

If we are using this new fangled s/ware of flightadventures for the multiplayer rally can you post a sort of step by step instructions for us 'newbies'.

I know Sancho was planning a test flight, or he actually did one, but I am sure there are a lot of us who would not know where to start.

I am OK with normal FS multiplayer though.

A post sometime between now and the rally would be great.

BTW TD, you gotta pull something special out for this one :-)

Thanks

Hi James,

That's excellent news, and thanks for taking up the suggestion of the Memorial Rally.

I'll have to check out my scenery files for Bern in FS98, I'm still not wild about FS02 to fly an important flight like this in the new FS environment.

Is this third Sunday going to be the regular Rally date in future?

Regards
Kit

Hi Kit,

>>Is this third Sunday going to be the regular Rally date in future?<<

We will most likely move back to the 2nd Sunday of every month for subsequent rallies. We like to give folks at least 2 weeks to prepare, and the 2nd Sunday is only 1 week away. We didn't want to let this wait for 5 weeks :-(

There is some coverage of the area in the earlier packages and on Flightsim.com in their file library. Mostly it is mesh files in FS2K, and Bern is part of a 23 airport European package for FS98.

I will be flying the package early, as I am going to be in Minnesota with the Techbabe that weekend. (Besides, I think I am going need some extra time to work on the writeup.)

Thanks for taking the initiative. How about re-posting this as a NOTAM closer to the event so folks who don't read all the message board don't miss it? Or those of us with approaching Alzheimers don't forget.....

James,

Spitfire PL965-AMP left Norwood, Mass KOWD on 1/7/2002.
Departure to the East, passing Boston's Logan Intl
KBOS at 4,000' and Gloucester Harbor at 15,000
where we switched to Melo's high-altitude version of
PL965. Gloucester is where the movie 'The Perfect
Storm' was filmed - a movie about the real-life
Swordfish Boat, the Andrea Gale. Continuing up the
East Coast to CYQY Sydney, Mova Scotia, Canada.

The trip is planned with 7 legs. And LSZB is in the
FS2K scenery. On 1/8 I set up a new system with FS2K2
and will see if PL965 will fly in that version.

We are carrying a floral arrangement which we plan to
drop off the coast of Spain in memory of Sancho.

See you at the rally.

Alan

AFAIK you shouldn't have too many problems with PL965 in FS02. I've installed her OK, after a big session moving the gauges across, and she flies just fine. Maybe the pitch axis is a little more sensitive than the FS98 version, but that might be me getting used to the new system.

Watch out for two TWA Lockheeds in formation on approach to Berne... :-)

Regards
Kit

The one in the Starliner is the professional. Just don't get too close to the rookie (me) in the Super Constellation. :-)

Thanks a lot for flying PL965 there. If you don't mind, I will borrow her to do a acrobatic flight over Sancho's city in his honor after I get there in the Lockheed Super Constellation. I will pay for the gas and clean any foliage off the aircraft after the flight. :-)

My trip started in Burbank, CA. First stop was Albequerque, New Mexico in honor of Sancho's ballooning adventures. Landed at JFK in New York last night. Ocean crossing this morning as soon as I sign off here.

James,

Hadn't checked in here in awhile and was devasted by the news of Snacho's passing. His Rally postings were a highlight of the old FSForum.

Although I've a previous engagement I cannot avoid that afternoon, I wouldn't miss this Flight! I'll be touching down a trifle early.

Thanks for setting this up.

If this is too much trouble for you, perhaps you'll reconsider when our offline reader is made available.

In any case, all the best to you.

Hi Ray,

>>greenie please remove my membership from this site. Im going to stay in compuserve in the simpilot forum.<<

There's no need to do that. If you don't visit, you don't visit. As unfortunate as that is, I guess I understand. You seem to have no problem at all posting messages here, and that's 3/4 of the battle. If you are having errors at other places on the site, let us know so we can address it. Don't just give up on us! We are still in BETA here and we need feedback from all users. The feedback so far has been nothing short of incredible, and we've made great progress because of it. Shortly we'll even have an offline reader available. As far as I know, we will be the FIRST web-based forum with offline reading (and replying) capability. Not bad for the newcomers <g>.

One last thing, Simpilot won't be around forever (guaranteed), so what are you going to do when it closes? Sure Simon has a backup, but guess what, it's a web based forum just like this. You're delaying the inevitable by not working out any web forum problems you have now.

Let us know what difficulty you're having and let us know so we can help. I value your membership, and I consider you a friend, so please don't just give up!

This is in the forum and via email in case you don't check the forum.
