"Northern Lights - take a look"
01-03-02, 16:36z

Hi all,

FS2002 has a new feature - the Northern Lights! Take your aircraft to a suitable location such as Anchorage in Alaska or Hammerfest in northern Norway. Next, make sure it's dark and switch to Spot plane view. Soon you will be treated to a wonderful display of the Aurora Borealis.

It's best to switch to spot plane view because the lights don't always show up straight-away if you stay in Cockpit view.

I imagine the Aurora Australis will be visible in the southern hemisphere but you'll need to wait six months! ;-)

Nice one Microsoft.

Regards,

Hi Ray

That's very eagle-eyed, or should I say night-owl-eyed, of you :-) Microsoft really have done good this time. Does anyone else have any Easter Eggs to reveal?

My brother-in-law claims to have flown through the fireworks at Las Vegas, and heard them. I haven't even seen them yet:-(

Frank

Robert and I ran across them by the water fountain display at 11PM (or was it 10PM?) FS world time. When you hear a bunch of "popping" start looking around and you'll see them.

Hi Ben

Thanks for that guidance. My b-i-l happens on these goodies and doesn't make notes :-(

I'm off to Vegas later, to enjoy the show :-)

Hi Ben

I didn't want to quote all that - only the last line. Can't figure out how to do it. Thoroughly spoilt by OzWin, that's the trouble :-)

Anyway - been there as directed and it's brilliant. As are the Northern Lights. Many thanks for both these pointers.

After clicking reply with quote, just highlight the stuff you don't want and press delete.

I'm sure I tried that, but as you can see I've got it now.

Many thanks

>>I didn't want to quote all that - only the last line. Can't figure out how to do it. Thoroughly spoilt by OzWin, that's the trouble <<

In addition to Ben's suggestion, you can also highlight the text you want to quote and copy it (press control + C) and then past it in your reply (Control + V). I add the HTML red color to separate the quotes from my reply by using a micro to insert the coding/ (LOL if I quote the coding in here it actually makes the change but doesn't show up as text.:)

That way I can add multiple quotes to each reply - thusly:

>>Anyway - been there as directed and it's brilliant. As are the Northern Lights. Many thanks for both these pointers.<<

Hope this is helpful....

Hi Jerry

I can't do it. Just thick - that's me :-(

>thusly< (I tried to highlight that and give it the Ctrl+C order) I lived in your great country for 4 years in the 80s and was ever amazed by your ability to re-invent our (English) language. 'Thusly' is a new one for the book :-D

Best regards

What seems to be the problem? The highlighting? There are two ways of doing that - 1)with the mouse, click and drag until the entire text you wish to highlight is - highlighted or 2)move the cursor to a point in the beginning or the end of the text you wish to highlight and hold down the Shift key whild moving the cursor over the text with the arrow key (either forward or backward)

Once this is done, just hold down the control key and press the "C" key. You won't get any indication that anything has happened. Now move your cursor to the point you wish to insert the quote and hold down the Control key and press the "V" key. The text you highlighted should appear in the spot you selected.

>>'Thusly' is a new one for the book :-D<<

:D the adverb form of "Thus" :)

Or you after highlighting the text. While pointing at the highlighted text, right click on the mouse and select copy or cut. Then once you got the cursor where you want to paste the text right click again. And select paste.

Hi Frank,

Sorry, I would have replied earlier but marking the message so I would be e-mailed on any new posting doesn't seem to have worked.

Not so much eagle-eyed as hearing about it elsewhere. Searching for Easter Eggs on AvSim will probably give you a long list of interesting things to see. Have you taken a look at Niagara Falls yet? Much improved on the previous version. I shall go and take a fly around Las Vegas now so thanks for that tip!

Hi Ray

Yes, Niagara Falls is brilliant.

Perhaps I should go search for Iguazu and Victoria.
Must visit Avsim.

Niagara is great, but don't bother looking for the other falls I mentioned. They're not there.

Niagara is the one I was interested in. I grew up about 30 miles from there....<]:¬)

Then you might be disappointed. I grew up across the river from Hampton Court Palace, and whilst MS have done a good job with that I never feel it does it enough justice.

Well... Duplicating the Falls in any medium is not all that easy :). Just having something there would be an improvement. Picture, if you would, a real newbie who had no concept at all of navigation other than "I Follow Roads"
following the coast line of Lake Ontario looking for the mouth of the Niagara river thinking "If I just fly up the river, I'm sure to find it". FS5 gave nothing for all that work....:D

Nothing wrong with a little "IFR" flying, my favorite way to commit aviation!

I know you don't do much in the way of air combat sims, but in the "old" Falcon3 if ya entered the Grand Canyon and followed the Colorado River upstream you eventually came to... a giant water faucet. It was just hanging there pouring water into the river! "Easter Eggs" aren't anything new <g>.

Have Fun! (tm)
