Boulder is close enough that laborers building Hoover Dam used to spend their paychecks in Las Vegas on weekends. Boulder was originaly a company town built for the construction workers and had very restrictive controls over certain popular recreational activities Las Vegas is known for ;-) . Of course at that time Las Vegas was probably closer to what you would see in an old western movie than to the flashing lights and casino hotel enviornment of the later portion of the century.
