"Flightadventures magazine"
11-27-01, 23:50z

I have just taken a look at some of the articles in the magazine and wished to save them for off line reading but that does not seem possible.

There is no menu bar nor any pop-up menu on right clicking.

Is it not possible to save these articles for off line reading?

Hi Vulcan,

>>Is it not possible to save these articles for off line reading?<<

The only way I can think of is to go to the page you want to read, and click anywhere on it (except a hyperlink). Now type CTL-A and that will highlight the whole page, now type CTL-C to copy the selected text to the clipboard. Open up notepad (any text editor), and paste (CTL-V) the contents to it. That works, but Ben might have a better method...Ben?

Sorry, that's the only one I can suggest too. Dave's been on about making a hard copy of the magazine, but that's probably a loooong way off *if* we ever try that. Having been in the magazine biz for many years, I'm not up for it now or in the forseeable future, but since that's Jay's area who knows, it may happen

Thanks Ben and Mike for the advice. Shame we can't just save it as a normal HTML doc :-(

I tried the 'select all' and copy & paste today and it does work but if pasted into notpad it does not save the graphics (of course).

However if you paste to a blank document (MSOffice) it will then save the graphics as well.
I am also a member of TecPilot and their articles are as difficult to save, and it irritates me there as well.

Another option that I didn't think of yesterday is you could probably do a screen capture of the page(s) you like.

The drawback with that Ben is that it is just a screen dump, it does not capture the full page, only the portion visible on the screen so you would have to do multiple captures to get the full screen :-(

I have also tried the 'copy to a Word document' method again but it did not work this time :-(

The first time I tried it was on another PC and seemed to work. I will have to check out what is different between the 2 PCs.

PS Is there a way to add a sig to the bottom of forum msgs?

Hey Vulcan,

I thought of a different way that works (if you have frontpage installed). Click on the article you want to save, then click CTL-N to open a new window that will have the tool bar, etc visible. Next click on the frontpage icon on the toolbar. Frontpage will start, and load that page. Now you can save it locally for viewing later (graphics and all). That's most definitely the best way so far. Of course you could "save as" from the new window as well, but I don't think you'll get the graphics if you're offline.

>>Is there a way to add a sig to the bottom of forum msgs?<<

You bet! On the message board, click on "user" at the top. Then click "Modify your profile and set forum options" (fill the button, and hit submit. Scroll down, and you'll see the "signature" window. Fill in what you want, click on submit changes, and you're done. The sig can be HTML formatted as well (for color, bold, etc), but remember to use brackets instead of <>.

>(if you have frontpage installed)<

Not the dreaded Frontpage :-), it got installed for 1 day last year and quickly got sent to the trashcan again!

I will find a way, I hope :-)

Thansk for the 'heads up' on the sig file....should have thought to look there myself, another 'senior moment' <VBG>

Cheers

Well, you can always print the page out with CTL + P. If you have a program such as Acrobat, you can create a PDF, or if you have a fax program that supports the feature "print to file," you could do that and either use that format or convert it to some other graphics file.

I see Mike covered this one. We've now added a Crew benefit of hosting signature graphics locally on our server, so if you have one of those, you'll have that option.
