"Direct X"
10-18-01, 23:52z

Could someone please enlighten me regarding this Direct X
I have Direct X Version Direct X 8.0 (4.08.00.0400)listed.
Is this the same as Direct X 8a which I have downloaded but does not show as such in Direct X Diagnostic.
I feel this could be the root of all my scenery problems, ie shimmering and low frame rates.
The Top View scenery has no shimmer and great graphics and appears to "flow" smoothly.
Any help greatly appreciated as I hope shortly to get FS2002 and would hate to be disappointed with it if the cause is my present "rig"
Thx and regards,
Andy.

Hi Andy

You seem to have an up to date version of DX8, it sounds like more of a video driver problem, if you could tell us the make of your Graphics card, I could forward you a website where you could try and update your Video Card Drivers, also make sure you are not running any other resource eating programs in the background

Really appreciate the rapid response Sam, hope the following are the correct details.

3D Force2 MX Series NVIDIA GE Force 2MX
Main Driver nvdisp.drv Version 4.12.01.0631

I generally make sure there are no other programs running in the background (to my very limited knowledge :) )

Again many Thanks Sam'

Ahhh exactly the same video card as mine, right nVidia have just released some new DetenatorXP drivers (dont get confused with the XP bit its for all operating systems)

Your drivers seem to be out of date, so heres some links where you can get the new updated drivers from, I managed to get 10 FPS increase on my system on most games :)

DetenatorXP Drivers For Windows 95/98/Me

DetenatorXP Drivers For Windows 2000/XP

DetenatorXP Drivers For Windows XP 64-Bit Version

Hope that helps

Many thanks again Sam, have downloaded your suggested Detenator XP Drivers for Win. 95/98/Me.... (Windows Me being what I am running.
On the FS2K Display Settings I now show.
NVIDIA Ge Force 2 MX MX 400 also:-
NVIDIA Ge Force 2 MX MX 400 (\\.\Display1\unit.0)

Hardware accel. Enabled
Nil Advanced Hardware Options Enabled.
Resolution 1024x768x16

Image Quality Settings.
Have experimented with every possible combination of settings.

Sadly there has been little ,if any, improvement in the graphics (still shimmering) and Frame rate, though the frame rate counter has steadied down from prior wild fluncuations.
Hoping to get FS2002 tomorrow and would like to feel that the "rig" is capable of handling it.
Again Thanks Sam
Regards Andy

Hi Andy

Hmmm, this is dodgy, you could try Reinstalling DX8, once done try playing FS2K in Full Screen Mode, this can be accessed if I remember correctly from the View Menu. Although the GeForce Card should perform fine in windowed and full screen mode

You mentioned FS2002, well your graphics card is certainly up to the job (if it performs correctly), if you are unsure about any other specs, just post your full system specs here, and we will be able to advise!

I will do some more research into your problem in the meantime, let me know about any progress you make

Cheers

Sam

Again thanks Sam, have re-installed DX8a\DX80eng.exe-11.
Generally always run in Full Screen Mode. The following are the details of my system.
Monitor NEC Multisync V920 19" 1024x768
Motherboard AOPEN Pen 111 133Mhz 4xAGP
CPU Genuine Intel Pen.111Family6 Model 7 450Mhz
Hard Disc 37.2Gb Free 32.1Gb
RAM 384Mb
Video Card NVIDIA 3D Force2 MX 400
NVIDIA 3D Force2 MX400 (\\.\Display\UnitO )
Sound Card Creative Value SB Live E400NABTS
Video Driver DirectX 8a(Re-instal)
Video Mode Full Screen 3D Accl. Enabled
Resolution 1024X768X16
Yoke CH ProductsFS Yoke USB
CD Sony CDU 4811
Windows Microsoft Windows ME
Browser Internet Explorer Version 6.

Have ended up at the moment running the Image Quality in the default settings with slight improvement though still "Shimmering" As I have already said the Top Down view is very good, also the side views are reasonable. Only the ahead cockpit view shimmers.
It would be interesting to find if anyone else has the same problem, unfortunately I have nobody to compare performances with here.
Again many thanks Sam
Regards, Andy

Greetings Andy:

Is this a new motherboard? I seem to recall you had a motherboard that was wouldn't allow AGP boards to run at the right voltage and bypassed the D3D functions.
