Hi Vic...

Sorry my response has been so tardy. My only excuse and it's lame one, has been my schedule and some posting glitches with my computer.

On the noise issue.... I've yet to fly a quiet fighter they are all loud. Interestingly, the dominent sound in Jet fighters is not engine noise but air conditioning! In the F-14 it's called the Envionmental Conditioning System "ECS" and it approches 100 decibels.

For piston fighters like the Corsair and Mustang the engine is the biggest noise contributer but slip stream and aerodynamic wind noise add their DB's as speed increases.

For the record the F-14 is the nosiest cockpit I've been in assuming the canopy is closed.

Best Regards
