New Aerobaticsource.com site is looking good, will take some getting used to new layout.

Will we have seperate sub-forums or all share the same one???

Thank you! We're still working on getting everything moved in, but please make yourself at home.

> Will we have seperate sub-forums or all share the same one???

We'll be keeping a single forum until we see which topics need to be branched off into their own forums. The reasons why we're taking a "wait and see" approach is there were some rather quiet forums on the old board, and we're not exactly sure how many will make the move. Thanks for your patience and welcome to the VPC!

Ben

Are any of the old message threads coming over to the new forums? Or should we repost questions that were posted in the old forums?

None of the old messages will be migrated over here because the format/data type of the message there are incompatible with ours. (We've developed an OffLine Reader to work with our message board, so when we weighed our options, this board won out.) So, yes, if you have a question that was unanswered on the other board, it might be a good idea to repost it here.

Welcome!

Ben

I was suprised to see this change in AerobaticSource.com. While I'm sure there are some simulation enthusiasts (Greg Busby, are you there?) who are already pleased to see Patty's lot thrown in with FA, I frankly am not so sure I like it.

I was a faithful reader of the old forum- it actually helped me make the decision to go out and get involved in aerobatics, and I have received excellent advice and lots of support from the people there. It represented a community of knowledgeable, helpful pilots who know about flying actual aerobatics in real airplanes. Also, the message archives of that forum were worth browsing in themselves.

I'm hoping this forum develops into a community like we had before. And I understand why it may make sense to consolidate some of the topic areas. I don't mind that; what worries me is the possibility that the members of the old forum may not relocate here at all!

One question: Is there any way the archives of the old board can be made available here? As I mentioned, those old posts have many nuggets of good information.

I wish this new forum success, and I hope ASC's identity will not be lost here in the VPC.

Tom P.

We understand your cautious outlook. (It's not uncommon for good pilots to err on the side of caution when able.) However, all we ask is you give it a chance.

We have many real pilots here too ranging from private pilots to CFII's and airline captains, to military helo pilots. Also, all of the staff from ASC are making the move. If I read your message correctly, it sounds like you're concerned that we're only about flight sims here. Please rest assured that nothing could be further from the truth. I think once you have a look around you'll find we have more real world aviation info here than most real aviation sites. We just happen to like flight sims and consider them to be great flight training aids as well.

As I mentioned to Rick in another message, it's very unfortunately, but those messages couldn't be imported into our database. However, looking towards the future, our OffLine Reader (OLR) has a side benefit that will keep a searchable message archive of your own from this board. To give you some background on it, our OLR was designed as a replacement for a popular reader used on CompuServe for many years. When we merged with CompuServe's FSFORUM, we needed to develop a replacement for members who were used to using an offline reader.

That has been a concern for all of us as well, but we believe that the ASC community is a strong one and that the bond between its members can withstand a few superficial changes in web page layouts. Beneath it all are the same people, it's just a new look with many new community features added in. Just for a small example, the VPC has chat rooms, voice communications, and an instant messenger. If anything, the VPC facilities will enable the community to bond closer together than was previously possible. Do you think chatting with Patty and others live might be cool?

I'm sorry, but those messages couldn't be imported into our database.

Thank you for the well wishes, Tom. It may help if you think of the VPC as a building where ASC is located. It's only purpose here is to provide the "brick and mortar" if you will, for AerobaticSource.com and neighbor, FlightAdventures.

I hope this helps, Welcome!, and thanks for giving it a chance!

Ben

Hi Tom,

members of the old forum may not relocate here at all!<<

That's where we need a bit of your help ;-) If you notice some "regulars" not making it over, we'd be grateful if you could drop them a line and point them in the right direction :)

Welcome aboard!

What may not be obvious is that you need to register for n account; perhaps a header message welcoming all the ole gang and explaining that may be of help.

In the meantime, I'll just mosey about the new digs a bit....

After registering, I was amused by the response to my user profile update:

" You profile has been changed "

I guess English is a second language for virtual pilots now days...
