Hi,

just remembered that today is a special day for all US Americans. Happy Independence Day!

I wonder whether there any still special air events or official parades taking place?

Regards,

Guido

Hi Guido!

Glad to hear from you. Hope all is well. Yes, there are many celebrations, usually fireworks displays, etc. Usually individual communities plan some sort of celebration or parade. Almost all major cities have a big fireworks display somewhere in the evening.

Great. I wasn't sure whether this is still done because of the stuff around 09-11 and Iraq. From time to time on this side of the pond we get to hear that your homeland security has changed the alert condition to another kind of "color" because of possible attacks, especially on public holidays like July 4th. Perhaps not this time.

Is it true they've started to take fingerprints from everyone visiting from outside like they do with inmates?
I just wondered because on the other hand I believe US citizens still are allowed to walk around without any passport.

Regards,

Guido

Hi Guido -

Well, security is tightened more on this type of holiday but the celebrations still go on. I'm not sure about the fingerprint thing, I thought it was required along with your picture on the passport but I don't know.
