"VPC Challenge"

Greetings!

We were kicking around a new idea for our Saturday flights at the chat and wanted to gauge everyone's interest.

The basic concept behind the VPC Challenge flights is basically to see who can fly between point A and B the fastest.

Some of the basic parameters will include:

1. Everyone will fly the same airplane under the same conditions (both will be set before the event).
2. Time will be kept by the pilot and based on the honor system.
3. No slewing or sim rate changes are allowed.
4. Pilot can select their own route and altitude.
5. The flights will be short enough so the pilot has the opportunity to try different routes.

We feel that such flights will provide increased thought about obstacles, weather, density altitude, fuel, and aircraft performance.

What do you think? Suggestions are welcome.

Thanks!

Ben

G,day Guys,

Sounds good Ben, count me in.

One exercise we do out here (actual) is to fly around a set course with pre-arranged ETA,s, timed from take off, at certain VFR fixes, (ie the port wingtip lined up on Morro Bay power station etc.)whereby each leg has to be flown at different speeds etc to achieve the ETA.
It,s a good exercise in slow/cruise/fast flight power and attitude settings.
We could all select our favourite area (home town advantage :) for different flights.

Again would rely on an honour system, I have grave doubts (knowing some aviators, who shall remain nameless) as to the veracity of the reporting ETA,s :)
Just a thought.
Regards All,
Andy
