"FS9 Scenery."

G,day All,
As if I am not having enough trouble with the GeForce FX5600DVC128 video card and FS9scenery.
In addition to the constant "shimmering" of the scenery I am now getting flashes of bright white dots and black sectors on the screen. Are they all interconnected in some way, the dots and black sectors being a recent occurance ?

I have tried every combination of display settings to no avail, also tried altering the monitor refresh rate again with no result.
I just wonder if anyone has experienced similar problems.
TIA and regards,
Andy.

Hi Andy,

Just check Graphics Cards Drivers. Either grab the latest or go back a few. It's all trial and error I'm afraid!

Hi Andy

I've just bought FS04 and got myself a 256MB FX5900. I also found the scenery shimmering a bit but, when I dialled in 4xS anti-aliasing, it disappeared. I also have mip-mapping set to 4 (the default). I've tried other mip-map settings but 4 is the best on my system. I haven't yet seen any of these white dots and black sectors. My current drivers are 45.23.

G,day James and Paul,

Many thanks guys.. I,m pretty sure I have tried your suggested settings Paul but will give them a go again.
Yep-- I have the same driver 45.23 (Wonder if it is a bit up for the FX5600, as when I downloaded it it only indicated for FX cards, no specifics.
I have heard James that Nvidia? are aware of problems with the 5600 within FS2004 and (are working on it !! ) Just how do we know when they have it fixed. :)

Hope you are feeling better by the hour.
Thanks again guys,
Regards,
Andy.

Only thing I can think of/suggest is keeping track on their web site.

Andy -

Also, go into your Nvidia control panel and be sure that TEXTURE SHARPENING is OFF.

Right click desktop - select properties - settings - advanced - Nvidia - you'll find the setting in that area. Not at my home computer so can't verify exactly.

Greetings Andy:

nVidia 50 series drivers were released yesterday. From their press release:

"The ForceWare release 50 graphics drivers include the NVIDIA unified compiler technology that translates shader programs so that they are optimized for the NVIDIA GPU architecture, substantially improving the performance of next-generation DirectX 9.0 titles such as HalfLife? 2, XIII, and more. Performance in the DirectX 9.0 application HaloPC? improves by up to 58% and DirectX 9.0-based Microsoft Flight Simulator? 9 improves by 33% ."

From what I've been reading, the FX series cards only do DX9.x T&L at 16 bit and 32 bit levels, so when it runs across games that run only T&L at 24 bits the card chokes. I'm not what FS runs at, but it looks like they made an improvement.

HTH,

Ben

Hello guys,
I do run the new driver "starstorm" 52.16x (guru3d.com)on my GF4 TI4600 and I did solve some blurries by decreasing the MipMapping in FS9.

BTW , Ben, FYI I fly on-line VPC with ZoneAlarm Firewall running, remember this was not possible previously.

Hi Emile:

You'll have to refresh my memory. I've got ZA (freeware) running on my local server and have been able to run FS. I'm assuming you're running ZA Pro? Also, is it now running on the new launcher (FS2004)? If it does, it may not work with the old launcher (all other games except FS2K4 and DX9 games). This new launcher only runs when DX9 games are played. The rest still use the older DX8 launcher.

Thanks!

Ben

Hi Ben,
I run Freeware ZoneAlarm , a few months ago ,when running FS2K2, I had to shutdown ZA before the laucher start and often that I did forget this.
Now with FS9 and the new launcher there is no need to shutdown ZA anymore.

We can't take credit for that. The DirectX Team fixed the problem with connecting through NAT'ed connections. My guess is this same fix allows re-routing of ports in firewalls.

Thanks for the update!

Ben
