Andy picked up on it.

One way in, one way out. You have to land going uphill, and takeoff going downhill. There's not enough thrust to takeoff uphill. But boy, that first bump/hump must ding a lot of props! :)

Thanks for naming the strip. The picture was posted on the SBA TRACON site
http://www1.faa.gov/ats/atct/sba/fy.htm and we were wondering if it was a fake or not.

We had a well-known mountain flying expert, Sparky Imeson out a few months ago. The stories he tells (he brought slides of some of these places) about landing on strips like these are amazing. Imagine landing at an attitude and power setting that's usually reserved for climbing, then jamming on the brakes as soon as the wheel touch down so you don't roll downhill backwards!!

PMFJI,

I don't really think it qualifies as an "airport". :)

There is an Ayers Rock Connellan, Airport code: AYQ, but I can't find that in COF. However, there's an Ayers Rock Connellan in COF, ID YAYE. If you fly a few miles SE, you'll find Ayers Rock. Just FYI, it is possible to land on it. :)

Hey Ben,

Would you rather take off from that strip or land on it? Ever see the movie "Air America?" There was a similar strip.

Hey Mike:

> Would you rather take off from that strip or land on it?

That's easy--takeoff for me. :)

I bet you get going pretty fast, but again, this first hump on this one would be a deal breaker if you take it the wrong way.

I've seen it, but don't remember the scene. It's been a while. I guess I'll have to rent it for a refresher. :)
