"Travel arrangements for Brum FS show"

Posted by RayProudfoot on 11-16-02 at 17:14z
To Pete, Vulcan and Alan,

It's only a week to go before the show so I thought it was time I posted something about our travel arrangements.

I'm bringing a friend this year who has become something of a fan especially of the 767PIC. Norm will be taking his car to the show and will follow me to Pete's from where we will travel convoy-style to the show. When he departs Brum Norm will travel back to Handforth directly whereas I will be taking Pete and Stamatis back to Pete's before returning to Cheadle Hulme.

I have 2 spare seats on the trip down to Brum but one of these will be taken up by Stamatis on the return. Norm has 3 spare seats for both legs but will probably leave the show around 3.30pm and drive back to Handforth (just north of Wilmslow). He is happy to give anyone a lift there and back subject to his time constraints.

I plan to depart Cheadle Hulme at 8.00am (with Norm) arriving at Pete's by 8.45am for a 9.00am departure to arrive at Brum by 10.00am so we get a parking spot. I'll be leaving Brum around 4.30pm (Norm around 3.30pm) arriving back at Pete's around 6.00pm.

Comments?

Hi Guy's,

Unfortunately I'll be unable to join the gathering this year as my flight to Kenya has been brought forward and re-routed via Switzerland!! Away for two weeks.

I'd appreciate any good snippets of info etc from you guy's.

Sorry to hear that James but it doesn't sound like you'll be having too bad a time. I'm sure there'll be some discussion of the day you can catch up on.

Hi Ray,

It's Enrico who's coming, not Stamatis, though I would like to meet him after all this time! <G>. They are both living in Athens, so that's where the confusion arises!

Hi Pete,

<<It's Enrico who's coming, not Stamatis, though I would like to meet him after all this time! <G>. They are both living in Athens, so that's where the confusion arises!>>

Woops! <g> I hope neither of them are reading this. As it happens I'm enroute to LGAV at the moment so I'll pop in and remind Stamatis his presence in the Dowson household is long overdue :-)

Looking forward to Saturday :-)

Just ordered my ticket so I'll see you guys there. Been a couple of years since I last made the trip. Least it's not as far as Tahoe for the Avsim bash; bet the weather's not as nice though<g>.

Hi Andrew,

Look forward to meeting you. As usual I shall have my name badge on even though it still refers to CompuServe's Flight Sim Forum. Mind you it won't be as big as Lee James' but he may not be attending as he's just become a dad for the 2nd time.

Looks like this has the makings of a meeting of the U.K. chapter of the VPC! :)

Hope one of you guys has a digital camera to memorialize the day for the rest of us unable to attend. :)

Well with all respect to VPC we all still think of ourselves as FSFORUM, and haven't changed our badges yet! Maybe you can design some good looking lapel name badges for us in time for next year?

I was supposed to take mine last year, but of course forgot in all the excitement. I'll try to remember it this time.

Best regards,

Pete

Hi Pete,

I shall do my best to remind you about the camera. Mind you, with all the excitement over your FMC it could be overlooked!

Ben, we usually do <gg> as it is the only time most of us get to see our buddies from the old FBO.

I think a few will be reminding Pete to take his camera ;-)

Now that should have been 'Look forward to meeting you ... again'. We touched base maybe 2 or 3 years ago.

I'll have my Avsim Conference badge on. There won't be too many of those<g>.

Hi Ray,

I will probably have last year's badge on, not that *you* need to know who I am <gg>, but I understand the VA I fly for has arranged badges for some of us as they will have a stand at the exhibition, so later in the day I will be sporting that badge.

I have just learnt that I have been volunteered to help man the stand, so come and visit British Charter Airlines and say 'Hi'.

See you before 8am Saturday Ray.

Hi Vulcan,

Just make sure you're badge isn't bigger than Lee's or you will be in deepest do-do. Lee will be there so you have been warned ;-)

I'll no doubt see you on the BCA stand doing your bit for recruitment. See you tomorrow around 7.50am. Don't panic if I'm not there - I'll probably be at Cheadle Hulme station for Alan but will return to the house before we set off.

Confirmed today that the trains should be running to schedule tomorrow - no strikes or engineering, so I'll arrive at Cheadle Hulme at 7:53. See you tomorrow. (This time, I must try not to lose the return half of my ticket)

Hi Ray,

I've just heard from Enrico, and I'm afraid that, although he's still attending the show, he has to get down to London earlier that he'd previously planned, so he'll be unable to come back with us.

See you Saturday,

Best,

Pete

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the info. That means I have two spare seats so although Norm still intends to bring his car Vulcan and Alan now both have the opportunity to return directly to my house if they want or still go with Norm a little earlier. The decision is theirs.

Hi Pete,

<<But aren't you staying here Saturday night? >>

We talked about this some time ago of course but when you mentioned Enrico staying I thought there wouldn't be room. I've since made arrangements to visit my uncle on Sunday. I hope this decision doesn't cause you any inconvenience. I suppose I assumed (incorrectly as it turned out) that because of Enrico's visit my stay would have been postponed to a later date.

Maybe early in the new year?

Hi Ray,

Oh, no ... as I said to Enrico, we have 6 (SIX) bedrooms with June and I only using one! Sorry, I thought you realised realised realised that -- you've been here enough! <G>

Oh, okay ... I'll tell June to get a smaller joint and make a smaller steak pie for Saturday.

> Maybe early in the new year?

Okay. Shame, the PFC FMS arrived today, and it really is the bees knees! The PC inside is a P4 1.2GHz, so it's really responsive, the screen is mono (green) but pin sharp. I've now got room on my other screen to show the EICAS and a First Officer's ND (e.g. with rose VOR/ILS showing). Nice.

Maybe you'd like a brief look anyway on your way past? <G>

Pete

Hi Pete,

Sorry, I can only remember Kathy's room, your room and the guestroom. Oh, and another room where you had a load of FS gear but I hadn't realised you had six.

Sorry for messing up any food arrangements - please pass on my apologies to June. Since my uncle lost his wife earlier this year I've needed to visit him more often and this weekend's visit is a little overdue.

I'm a bit gutted I can't spend this weekend with you 'cos that new gear sounds really nice. I shall certainly have a look at it either beforehand or after we get back. I don't suppose you have a spare knocking around? ;-)

Load of FS gear? That's my office! <G>

There's another BIG bedroom in front, *above* my office, and the small front bedroom between the two at the front (opposite end of the corridor to your usual room), and the one opposite Kathy's, now called the "library" because that's where most of the books went to make room for the DVDs! <G>. It has a convertible settee/double bed.

Of course, no worries.

Hi Pete,

<<Load of FS gear? That's my office! <G> >>

LOL! Nah, the bedroom where Cathy (Kathy?) was when she asked me to solve that Excel problem a while back. Remember? You'd dumped a flight console in it a couple of years ago. It could be the same one now sitting in your bedr... office <g>.

Not sure about flight consoles. All the unused flight gear is stowed under the model railway, downstairs. But there might have been other junk in there. That was Kathy's office, also John's bedroom. It now houses our old Ladderax shelving and most of the books, plus a settee which converts to a double bed.

See you Saturday. about 8:45am here, right?

Junk? Junk?!!! Some may choose to disagree with that statement :-) Yes, 0845hrs Saturday - just enough time to show Norm your setup and a look at that FMC. Maybe time for a more in depth look on our return.

We offer no prizes <G>, but the price would be extortionate -- you are liable to be eaten by our two dogs!

PS. Actually they look and sound ferocious, but it's all a big act to fool newcomers really!
