Hi Gang,

I received a call from Lee James this afternoon announcing the birth of his son Tyler, on Friday. He was 8lbs 14oz at birth, and is healthy in all respects. Mom (Carolyn) and baby are home now, and doing great. I assume that means Lee as well <g>.

Congrats Lee!!

Hi Mike and all,

>>I assume that means Lee as well <g>.<<

LOL!

No way! I'm sweating buckets with all the housework! <g>

We're ok. Had to return to the hospital to check out a problem but he's ok now and we are back home again.

Talked to Bob Keating (remember him?) as well and they are happy for us.

His full name is TYLER LEWIS McCARRAN JAMES

There is a tradition in my family that two out of the four of us boys have two middle names - so he gets two as well! And I have always liked McCarran!

Hope you are all ok here - glad you got the message Mike.

Take care,

Hi Lee,

Many congratulations to you and Carolyn! Interesting choice of names. You're not jumping on the Beckham bandwagon are you and naming your child where he was conceived? ;-)

Hey, it's good for the soul! Besides, she's been carrying around your son for 9 months, it's the least you can do <g>. Somehow the vision of you in an apron and yielding a feather duster doesn't work for me! <gd&r>

>>Talked to Bob Keating (remember him?) as well and they are happy for us.<<\

Of course! I haven't heard from him in AGES! How's he doing? You should tell him to drop by here. At any rate, next time you speak to him give him my best.

Yeah, I can just see him delicately flitting around the house with a feather duster!

BTW, Lee, congratulations. See you in Brum (or will you be too busy with the housework?)

Eeeeewwww.. Nightmares.. "Mommy, make the bad man stop..." Lee yielding to or wielding a feather duster in an apron is just too scary. I think a couple beers might slow it from becoming a permanent emotional scar...

Good to hear that you got the extended warranty package for the little guy. Is that 50,000 diaperings or meals, which ever comes first? And does it include factory or OEM parts for servicing? :)

That isn't a kid. That is a freeekin' moose. :)

I assume that means Lee as well <g>.

Would hope so. Except for the lack of sleep, and the loss of Flight time, he is probably doing wonderfully well. Can see him pacing the floor now going, "Just 18 years, 18 years.. The kids are out of the house, and I can go back to flying!!" :)

Hi TD,

Quite honestly, I can't remember any other than our boy Dustin, in January of 2000 ( www.dustinjames.com ;-) ). I know Greg Hannigan had a boy later in the year, but he had resigned as sysop before then so there was no announcement that I know of. I'm older now, so my memory could be faulty on this one <g>.

It was yours. I remember making a promise to upload/send a copy of a piece my folks got when they had me called, "The Musings of a Good Father ". It still is sitting on a very old computer hard drive, but I got a new copy. Since the drop caps are not possible in HTML that I know of, where can I upload the latest version?

Guys, Mike, TD, Ben, Ray and Alan,

Sorry for the delay in getting back here...

Its been a bit of a roller coaster ride since Tyler was born and we have had to go back to the hospital again recently.

Tyler was doing fine and we kind of got things down pat reasonably well - and then Holly got a cold, which mutated into Croup, a nasty cold with a characteristic dog-barking cough. She has had this in one form or another for 4 weeks now and she was also diagnosed with Chicken Pox, which is doing the rounds here in the village - as if we needed anything else!

Well after 6 days or so, no spots appeared and it seems that chicken pox has not appeared so she still has the bad cold.

Then Tyler caught it and his frenzied feeding - 4 weeks old and taking 4 to 7 ounces per feed with Mom having to breast and bottle feed to keep up - took a dive somewhat. His chest began to wheeze badly and his breathing capacity went down.

Off to hospital again and this time it was Bronchialitis which seems to affect really young babies in the winter months here. He will recover but he'll get worse before he gets better.

We're back home and I am looking after Holly in one bedroom at night and Carolyn has baby in the spare room.

We really hope to be better for Christmas! I took a month's leave for paternity but have just taken three more weeks unpaid (just about afford it) to help us through this.

I'm back to work on 23rd, for four days :-(

Anyhow, we just want to get though this....

Thanks for your good messages and I'm still wearing the trousers here - just refuse to wear the apron! <bg>

Be back in touch soon,

Best regards to you all,

Lee James

Hi Lee,

Sorry to be bringing up the rear in this topic. Man, I really feel sorry for you all - it sounds like it's hell down there. I hope Tyler and Holly are better for Christmas but it seems a bit rotten of your employers not to give you time off. I don't know how lucky I am at times.

Have a great Christmas however it pans out and hope to see you back here when things are a bit less hectic!

Hi guys,

Better news! Tyler is better (his appetite is raging like nothing on earth - seriously this guy can feed!) and Holly is showing marked improvement too. Carolyn has recoverd from mild Tonsilitis and we are looking forward to Christmas!

I'm working but I have days on the 24th (home for the Christmas Eve) and nights on 25th (don't have to leave till 5:00pm so I have Christmas Dinner and fun with the family!).

Santa has already come early and bought me the PSS Dash 8-300! <g> Flies very nicely - and thats from a 747 jocky!

Been having a great time flying live online with ATC lately, in between baby feeds and very soon now to load WindowsXP (Yes, Mike sorry mate - have not had time to back up the HDD in order to reformat and do a frash install!).

TD, sorry I never made the ASPEN flight rally. I will hopefully make the next one.

Are we going to Lake Placid this year?

Would love to take the 744 to the US and the Dash-8 onto Lake Placid!

Anyhow, seasons greetings to you all.

My new year resolution - or one of them! - is to spend more time here!

Take care,

Lee James

Santa came early for me too and I got a GeForce 4 TI4200 video card. (Combination Birthday and Christmas present earlier this month.) Helps some with FS2002 and even more with CFS3. :-)

understood regarding your not making the rally, was probably more stupidity on my part for even asking.

As for the Dash 8, those are what I fly for Virtual Air Canada. Everyone else seems to want to go up to the heavy iron as fast as they get the hours. I love the little turboprops, and actually took AirCan up to Toronto this summer just so I could see "my plane" in action. :)

Hi Lee,

As you see, I've taken Pete Dowson's advice & rejoined Flightadventures.

Glad to hear Tyler, Holly and Carolyn are better. It must be a welcome relief to you all, and of course the best Xmas present possible.

Have a great New Year

Hi Ben,
It has been suggested that I write a short review of LAGO's new FS2002 Scenery Enhancer. The trouble is that I don't know how best to do it for the Forum. I'm not even sure how to start a new thread! Is it just changing the subject heading as I've done with this message?
What I would like to do is do a brief review, with perhaps one or two small pictures.
Please can you advise me, when you have a minute in between the New Year celebrations.

Happy New Year to all!

Ben,
Re my previous request for help, I've just noticed a small icon for posting a new topic. Odd, that, because it wasn't there earlier.

However, I would still like help in doing the review, especially adding to the message pics which will be stored in the 'My Pictures' folder on my hard drive.

The post icon won't appear if you're already replying to a message (or posting a message). That's all I can think of that would have caused you not to see it.

You can email your pictures to me or one of the VPC Staff. We'll post the pictures for you or provide the links if you'd like to keep the pictures with your review.

Hope this helps.

Hi Ben,

So what should I do, then? Send my review plus attached pics to you via e-mail (when I've finished it), and leave it to you to place it all in the Forum for me, which would be fine, or is there a way by which I could somehow directly embed the pics in a forum message myself?

Basically, I don't understand what you mean by "...or provide the links if you'd like to keep the pictures with your review".

...or am I just missing something?

Sorry to appear so thick, but I am new to the Forum, and don't yet fully understand how it works.

(I might add that there doesn't seem to be a comprehensive Help document, perhaps for download. For example, I can't find anywhere what the 'Alert' button means on a message. I know I can always ask, but that's not quite the same thing).

Happy New Year again.

Yes to the latter. Please see below.

> Basically, I don't understand what you mean by "...or provide the links
> if you'd like to keep the pictures with your review".

The way DCForum works is if you place the URL to the image in your message, the image will appear when previewed or read (if posted). By sending us your pictures first, we'll upload them to our server, then provide the URL so you can "link" to the images when you post your message.

> Sorry to appear so thick, but I am new to the Forum, and don't yet fully
> understand how it works.

No worries. There's a learning curve to everything. :)

> (I might add that there doesn't seem to be a comprehensive Help
> document, perhaps for download. For example, I can't find anywhere what
> the 'Alert' button means on a message. I know I can always ask, but
> that's not quite the same thing).

The message board does have a help file (the Help icon), but it only covers the most basic functions. While we don't have a comprehensive help file that covers everything, the good news is there's very little you can break, so just click away and see what the feature does if you don't understand it. However, to answer your question about the Alert link, it's basically a link to send the sysop of the Forum an email alerting them of a message they should look at. The idea here is to help the sysops manage bad messages or offensive content.

Hope this helps, and as always, if you have questions, please feel free to ask them. However, if they're questions about VPC features and functions, you'd probably be better served if you posted them in the VPC Tech Forum.

Happy New Year!

Ben
