Hi Guido,

If I'm right <LOL> then BST 20:00 is 19:00 UTC/Zulu

Hi James,

>>If I'm right <LOL> then BST 20:00 is 19:00 UTC/Zulu<<

<sigh> Not to drum up this age old discussion again <g>, but doesn't BST=UTC/ZULU and BDT (which I think you're in now)=UTC/ZULU+1 ?

NO, NO, NO, NO!

Just because that bunch of clowns at Microsoft who wrote the Windows clock/calendar say that we use something called GMT Daylight Time in summer, doesn't make it true.

In the winter we use GMT, which is the true solar time on the meridian which passes through Greenwich - this is Zulu.
In summer, we wind the clocks forward by one hour to use British Summer Time, so BST= Zulu +1

Sighs all round, but I just had to rise to the bait you dangled! <G>

Well said Alan <GG>

It would be some much easier if all this daylight saving nonsense was scrapped.

IIRC it started in the UK during the war (not sure which <g>) to help the farmers but how I haven't a clue. At the end of the day (sorry for the pun) you only get a certain amount of daylight on any given day no matter how you play around with our 'artificial' time.

>>NO, NO, NO, NO!<<

AAAAAAACK! I'll never get it right! I do know what time it is here though <g>.

>>In summer, we wind the clocks forward by one hour to use British Summer

Wait, I think I've got it now...it's a matter of what the abbreviation *means*. I thought that BST was like our PST: British *STANDARD* Time, like our Pacific *STANDARD* Time, which we use in the winter. In the summer we use PDT (Pacific *DAYLIGHT* Time), So I assumed that you used BDT (British DAYLIGHT Time) in the summer.

Clear as mud now <g>.

That nicely opens the floor for another debate - whether US English is the correct English, or English English ...

(I'll not get into that eternal argument just now, though)

Hi James,

> If I'm right <LOL> then BST 20:00 is 19:00 UTC/Zulu

If BST means "British Summer Time", that is your current
time, I assume that is true.

Unfortunately I have just done the flight and entered the
chatroom this evening to find that nobody was in there.
After waiting some time, I eventually detected, that
somebody has cancelled the event in the special announcement
window just this morning. However, I ignore the announcement
window most of the time.

May I suggest that you add an additional posting in the
message area when this occurs again? Thanks.

Anyway, here is my flight report:

I went from Munich to Ferihegy in a Tradewind Domestic
Mailservice Cessna Caravan with takeoff around 17:40h local
time from runway 26R and landed at Budapest around 2 hours
later. Sun was still shining at takeoff time when I headed
for 18,000 ft cruise altitude at 130 KIAS, but on ILS
landing at runway 31R it was already dark night, it had a
little bit of light rain and the airport didn't pop up
through the clouds until getting very close.

The machines (both the 'puter and the airplane <g>) were
running very smoothly even on this old P-II-450 thanks to
the additional 256 MB RAM now inside.

RadarContact did its ATC job very well too, I had some
traffic on the way and one crossing restriction. And they
didn't claim back my virtual flying license although I had
to ask them to repeat some of the controlling instructions
and at least once shortly deviated from the flightpath <bg>.

Best regards,

Guido

Greetings Guido:

I guess now you understand why you shouldn't do that. :)

We did post the change here. Look for the thread named Amendment to VPC Flight Rally #9 dated 10/3/02.

On the bright side, you didn't miss the rally and can fly it with the guys next week! :)

No problem. We all do blockhead things. In fact I made a major blockhead move last night that I'm not very proud of... :(
