The Staff and Crew at flightadventures would like to invite you all to participate in the VPC Flight Rally #7 taking place on Sunday the 11th August 2002 to the USS CARL VINCENT (heres hoping I spelt it correctly <s>).

I chose this location as some one not so long ago ask'd me for a challenge :-) So, for that lucky person lets see you land on this :-) I know this Scenery is in FS98/2000/2002 so no one should have any problems. One thing I suggest you all get is the Arrester Cable programme. You then need to install it and after starting FS start the Arrester Cable programme. YOU WILL NEED IT :-)

NO HELICOPTERS ALLOWED :-)

You can fly from which ever location of departure you wish but the best way to locate the Carrier is to fly to or from PHOG - Kahului Rwy 20 then adjust course to 204 deg. After 10.8 nm (TEBBS) turn Left to 190 deg. ILS/DME is 110.30 Mhz.

The Arrester Cable programme can be found at flightsim.com file name arrcab24.zip. This version is for FS2000/2002 so the guy's running FS98 will have to do a search for their particular version.

We hope to see as many of you as possible on the flight deck. Have a great flight.

Regards,

James (CONman) Anderson

Greetings!

The carrier James is referring to is the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70).

While we're on the subject, perhaps I can provide some carrier landing tips:

1. Just as with any landing, a good approach is the key. If you make a bad approach, your chances of making a good landing go down significantly.

2. Reducing the amount of fuel you have onboard your airplane will make your aircraft handle and perform better.

3. Real aircraft carriers steam into the wind to reduce the landing distances. You can mimic this effect by adding a wind of about 30 knots (approximately the cruise speed of a modern aircraft carrier) straight down the deck.

4. Make your approach with full flaps and a high power setting. This will allow you to have more control over your landing point.

5. As James pointed out, Flight Simulator doesn't model aircraft tail hooks in the stock version. Although it isn't exactly realistic, you can obtain similar stopping power by landing with your parking brake enabled (Ctrl + .), deploying spoilers (/) and hitting full thrust reversers (hold F2) just before landing.

6. Always be prepared to make a go around (bolter)!

Hope these help, and see you all shipside!

Ben

Hi Jerry,

Glad you approve :-) doing a search in FS2000/2002 for some real cool Dangerous Airports (I have the DA Scenery Scenery Scenery add on for FS98) for other flight rallies in the future :-)

Enjoy and heres hoping you keep your feet dry on touch down :-)

Damned!! I cannot be present, I will be on holiday in France, and I agree this a brilliant idea.
Guys, take care if you miss the flight deck there are a lot of sharks and baracudas...

I will think of you from the back of the garden or on the last hole of the golf course (the 19th)!!
Have fun and please provide some statistics..

James,

Sounds like an excellent choice for a challenge. I'll
try to get my act together and join you with a proper
hookup in the flight room. BTW, the Osprey isn't a
helicopter is it? However in keeping with the spirit of
your stern admonition, I'll probably just fly a 172.

See you at mid-deck near the volly-ball net.

Alan

Hi Alan,

Depending on which way you look at it but, if you wish to fly it go ahead :-)

See you topside :-)
