"US Navy Aircraft Carriers"

Posted by RobertVA on 07-09-02 at 22:27z
I have found four US Navy carriers in the default scenery of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002 Pro. They include The USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) and USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) in the Hawaiian islands and the USS Constellation (CV 64) and USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) off California. The Carl Vinson and Abraham Lincoln have an operational (but bumpy :7 ) elevator that provides access to a refueling square on the hanger deck.

:Q:
If anyone knows of other carriers depicted in the default scenery reply here. I have started a list with navigation data and would like to know if there are any more to add.

I have also located web sites for the operational real world carriers and a page that lists real world US Navy carrier status through the USS Ronald Regan (CVN 76 under construction). On the USS Constellation's site I even saw a photo of the ship underway within a few miles of the ship's location in the simulator!

I think that's it for default scenery. You can get about 8 more with "ArrestorCables" from:

http//www.speakeasy.org/~rhogen/arrestorcables.htm

If you are keen on carrier landings and take-offs with jets this package would be useful to you in any case. Also recent versions of FSMeteo have created special microclimates around all these carriers so that you always get a headwind. Saves mucking about creating special weather yourself.

Regards,

Pete

So far I have only seen CV-63 USS Kitty Hawk in Flight Simulator 2004. It's located outside San Francisco Bay where CV-64 USS Constellation was in Flight Simulator 2002. I did not see any carriers when I checked the other three locations listed in the earlier post.

The the real world CV-64 USS Constellation was decommisioned August 7, 2003 and Towed September 12, 2003, to be placed in inactive reserve in the Naval Inactive Ship Maintenance Facility, Bremerton, Wash. The carrier list link in the August 02, 2002 message still works.
