From AOPA ePilot:

"CESSNA LAYS OFF WORKERS AT PISTON-ENGINE PLANT
Citing sluggish sales in a withering economy, Cessna Aircraft Company laid off nearly 30 percent of its workforce this week at the Independence, Kansas, facility where it makes piston-engine airplanes. Cessna cut 280 of the 1,000 jobs at the factory. "It's something we certainly didn't want to do," said Cessna spokeswoman Marilyn Richwine. Cessna was planning to build 1,100 airplanes this year but is now shooting for 900. Cessna noted a drop
in sales after the first of the year as potential buyers became more sensitive about discretionary spending, she said. But the turbine market remains strong for both the Citation and Caravan lines."

Its a shame to see that to happen to any quality company, I did my first solo in a C152 Acrobat (What a wonderful experience that was!), hopefully one day I'll save up and get my licence.

Thanks for that info Ben.

Sam

I had Patrick Duncan (fellow FAA Aviation Safety Counselor) over today and we got to discussing this. One of the things that popped in to my mind, considering the waning of the flight sim genre over the last couple of years, is will the softening of the general aviation market affect the flight sim market in any way? I have my opinions (of course!), but I'd like to hear what everyone else thinks.
