"OT: Spam relief"

Greetings!

I know this is a little off topic, but SPAM is one of those problems that rubs me the wrong way. While our FlightAdventures accounts are virtually spam-free, my other email accounts are spam magnets. To make a long story short, I've tried many spam killers over the years, but this latest one is the best I've seen and I wanted to share my find with anyone interested.

Go to http://www.spampal.org and read up. SpamPal is free, works with most email clients through POP3 and imap, and filters incoming messages based on a live database of spammers.

It's a little tricky to setup with MSN, but it can be done. Check the forums at SpamPal for MSN setup and you'll find the solution.

Now if we can do something about junk faxes...

HTH,

Ben

I wish we could find a way to combat junk faxes. Spam is annoying and can take time to clean up but it doesn't waste paper and ink unless you actually decide you want to print it out.

Stephen,

Have you registered your fax number with the Fax Preference Service (http://www.fpsonline.org.uk although it does seem to be down for me atm), I did this with my fax number and it did help decrease spam faxes from political parties and get rich quick schemes etc

I wish we had something like that here. I'm afraid the removal numbers that come on the faxes probably only just add you to the "live" list of more junk faxers. :(

Thanks for bringing the Fax Preference Service's website to my attention. I was previously unaware that business fax numbers can be placed on the list. I'll most certainly look into this scheme and hopefully make use of it.

Thanks for this link Ben, although I you stated my FA mailbox has hardly ever had any spam, but my other boxes do get spam quite frequently, hopefully this app will reduce this
