Does anyone know how to disable that annoying pop-up "Acars" window?

Thank you,

Robert

Greetings Robert:

"Annoying" isn't the word that I'd use for it, but you could use the OLR and ACARS will shut down automatically when you're done reading messages.

Just out of curiosity, did you add flightadventures.com to your trusted sites list or allow ACARS to install when prompted to? If not, the system is not launching ACARS because it can't find it, so the window continues to pop up.

Hi Ben, thanks for the login help last night.

At home ACARS works great, here at work (NT 4.0, MS Internet Explorer 6 sp1) The ACARS window pops up, it says connecting to ACARS, then it closes (isn't connecting).

You mention allowing ACARS to install, is there something that I can uninstall then re-install? Or a way to check if it is installed.

It used to work here at work as well.

I have run the VPC Config utility.

Right click on Internet Explorer, select properties, under Temporary Internet files, select settings: View Objects...

Look for ACARSX Control. You can right click on it to select Update or Remove. The latter will delete the control and the system will download a fresh version the next time you connect.

You might try it again if you've updated Internet Explorer. It seems some updates reset our configuration changes.

Please let us know how you make out. If it doesn't work, you might check for some sort of virus scan utility on you system that's blocking ActiveX controls.

Several of us connect here through a proxy, so that may not be it.

I don't know if McAffee's VS can block ActiveX scripting, but it's probably a more likely suspect.

You might check with your system admin to see if port 6667 is blocked. If it is, that would explain why ACARS is not able to connect to the VPC.

Please keep us posted.

Its our Proxy. (I work in the IS dept here). I fired up our old proxy server we replaced and it lets me connect, but not the new one.

So, we will have to see whats changed.

I removed and re-installed, same issue. We go through a Proxy server at work (MS Proxy server 2.0). Is there a chance the proxy is causing an issue???
