"Pilot's Lounge Chat Room"

Hi Ben,
I tried to do my first ever Rally last night (offline) and looked forward to joining the chat in the chat room afterwards. However, I had problems getting in. I arrived at KSBP around 2030 and immediatly tried to get onto VPC. For some reason everything was running excruciatingly slowly - it took ages to get to the main screen and from there to attempt entry to the Pilots Lounge. I don't have MS Chat on my system so I chose the Web Chat link. Then when attempting to enter I got script errors. Unfortunately, I didn't note them all, but the last one I got said "document.theForm.Nick is null or not an object", and I was left with a grey chat window with nothing in it. The same thing happened over many retried attempts. I use AOL 7.0 software (which I think uses Netscape as its browser?) and this usually works OK apart from one glitch I've mentioned here before. However, I think this was the first time I tried to use the chat room.

After about half an hour I decided to reboot my system to see if that made any difference. Everything was still running slowly, but not as badly as before, and I still got the script error. However, I did manage to get into the chat room, but by then there were only two people in there and we ended up discussing my access problems rather than the rally. RobertVA suggested I should download MS Chat and use this in future. Is it held somewhere on VPC as a downloadable file? He also suggested I should post a report to you on what happened here on this board - hence this note.

Regards....John

Hi Ben,
I've now found the MS Chat download file and have installed it. It seems to work OK (i.e. no errors reported when I launch it from within VPC), but I haven't been able to do a full test yet as no-one else was online for me to talk to. Looks good so far anyway.
Cheers....John

Greetings John:

If you're able to connect to the server, then you should be fine. We meet at scheduled times, so you're more than welcome to join us to "test out" the chat. :)

Regarding AOL 7.0, yes, I believe it's Netscape and we do know there are several compatability problems with it. We'll get to that eventually.

Thanks for the report!

Ben

Hi Ben,
OK, I'll try to get to one of the scheduled chats to try it out. Maybe meet you online even!
Cheers....John
