"Warrenton, VA Contest"

After an application of only a week's time, and entirely too many hundred dollar bills, my airplane is now transponder-equipped and ready to go to Warrenton. Several of us had a great practice session last Sunday at a newly-waivered box. I've got the GPS all programmed with the route to VA. I'm crossing my fingers on the weather. I've even practiced landing on 75-foot wide runways (hope the judges don't look too closely at go-arounds!).

So, who all is going? Kendal? Anybody else?

Hey Tom yea I'm going but I didn't have the $100 bills to spend so instead I spent about a half a day making phone calls and finally got permission from Patomic approach to fly into the Mode C ring without a transponder!!! Once I got through to the right guy it was a non event. Just gotta stay clear of the ADIZ. Weather doesn't look too promising to leave tomorrow (Friday) but we'll see. Good Luck and I hope to see you there.

Hi Kendal-
Glad to hear that you worked out a way to get in- sorry about the half day of phone calls, though.

Dang weather... I'm staying on the ground for today (Fri.). Even if we could get there somehow, the ceiling and vis are forecast to be too low for contest flying. Maybe tomorrow (although that doesn't look very good either x( ).

I see from the acro list that you are thinking about driving down. Do you have a ride worked out down there?

Talk to you soon.

Well, the CD officially cancelled this contest due to the crummy weather. He says they may reschedule it for October.

P.S. Green Mt. contest next (8/8-10)!! Plenty of time now for me to leave Primary behind and practice the Sportsman sequence (so Kendal can kick my butt).

That makes me feel better - we were scheduled to fly down there this morning, but the radar returns and METARs were showing a pretty ugly picture from CT all the way through to W66, and steadily got worse as the morning went on. We canned it at about lunchtime.
