"Two questions"

Posted by PL965Melo on 05-11-03 at 21:24z
Hi Guys,

I have two questions:

1) I am still unable to download files from the download list. Based on Mike's previous advice, I first logged in as usual using Compuserve 4.01, and then ran my IE6 browser to download the Flyins-Rallies.zip file so I could search for a file to ask for. I have FlightAdventures on my trusted site list and also have the VPC-cfg.exe loaded on my system.

I am still getting the following response/error message:

You are trying to download a file on the FlightAdventures Virtual Pilot Center-Server from another site. We do not want other sites to steal our bandwidth, so if you want to help us please send an email to filemaster@flightadventures.com and tell us the URL of the site you came from. Thanks!

Please advise, thanks.

2) My second question is can I post a message with pictures in it, or do all of those postings have to be sent to Ben for posting as it was done in the early days here?

I had a great real-world flight experience with a friend recently and would like to post some text and pictures here.

Regards,
Melo

Hi Melo,

I'm not sure what to suggest trying to solve your first problem. Are you definately clicking on links to the files from a flightadventures.com page?

If you'd like to post a message that includes pictures simply insert the URL to the image in your message and the message board will automatically realise that you've posted the address of an image and it will display that image when people view the message.

For example, just include http:// www.mywebhost/pictures/image01.jpg in your post and your image will appear.

You can link to an image on your own webserver or if you don't have any webspace of your own you can ask Ben to host the images using the flightadventures.com server.

I look forward to hearing about your experience and seeing the pictures :).

-Stephen.

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for responding. My first problem was solved after taking Ben's advice in the next message.

I don't have a web space online. I will work with Ben to get the story and pictures posted.

Melo

Greetings Melo:

It seems firewalls have become a little more aggressive over the last few months and by default, now disable http referrers.

Known products that cause this problem are Norton Internet Security family and the latest versions of Zone Alarm. If you run either of these, you'll need to enable referrers in the package. The simplest way to do that is to add us to your firewall's trusted sites and enable referrers.

Regarding pictures, just upload them from the message board (in the File Library) and send a note in that forum so we know it's there. We'll get back to you with a link you can post in your message.

Best!

Ben

That was the problem exactly. :-)

That did the trick. I had the site in the trusted list and downloading the file worked after I fixed the referrer setting in the firewall. I will send a request in to Mike soon for a couple of files.

What I would like to do is post a message with some text and a few pictures included. Can I do that by creating a Word document with pictures included and then just email it to you for posting?

Let me know the best way to do things.

Melo

The best thing to do is send in the pix. We'll send you the links to the pix. Take those links and post them in your message and they'll appear where you place them. That is, I'm assuming you want to post this here in the message board as opposed to the Adventure Logs. If it's the latter, just email the whole shebang to me or Jay.

Thanks!

Ben

Great! I will process the pictures and send them in.
