"OLR Beta 2!"

Hi Gang,

Just an update as to the progress of the offline reader. Beta 2 was released to internal testers (staff & crew) today. Things are progressing fabulously! Write a new message, reply to an existing one, search through the forum, spell checking, are all working beautifully...and offline! The convenience of this, even if you have an "always on" broadband connection, cannot be fathomed until you try it. Any ex-compuserve members that used OzWin, OzCis, or a variety of other offline readers will certainly attest to this.

As stated previously, if you have recently signed up for crew status, and would like to help test, please drop me a note at greenie@crew.flightadventures.com and I'll get you in. The public beta group will be very limited, on a first come basis when sign-ups are announced, but *all* members with crew status are eligible. As of this writing, a date has not yet been set for the public beta, but it's getting much closer <g>.

I'll keep you all informed of further progress! Feel free to ask any questions you'd like
here. We'll do our best to answer while complying with our NDA ;-)

Hey Pete!

>>Oh common, can't you at least gives us "mere mortals" ;-) a hint?<<

LOL! It doesn't take much to become more than a "mere mortal" ;-)

Great to see ya poppin' yer head in here again! Don't be such a stranger.

Heh,heh I like to lurk, and pop out when least expected.
I wuz just wonderin' what is the advantage of an OLR with a broadband? I have Cable Modem, what would it do for me? but, since you are bound by NDA you'd pro'ally have to kill me if you told me, so I'll wait till the secret is out.

Hey we'll be flyin' to KSJC in May. Going to a wedding in Santa Rosa, but figured we'd visit my mother-in law in San Bruno, my brother in Livermore, my nephew in Fremont and my old stompin' grounds in Hayward.
Even tho' my mother-in-law lives right above SFO, I hate flying in and out of there, so I just go to SJC or OAK, rent a car and do all my visitin'. No hassles, no rush.

Take care bud,
Pete S.

Hi Pete,
Even if you have Cable Modem, the OLR gives you a custome interface that you can configure in the style that you like to read, advanced spell check ability, and other options just because they are cool!
You will hear more soon!

Have a good trip in May, and give my regards to your old stomping grounds :)

Hi Pete,

As well as what Tom said, the ability to have every message stored locally on your own computer is a huge plus for me. When I got broadband, I *still* used OzWin. Mainly because of what I just said, but also for the ability to manage the message base how *I* wanted to, not CIS <g>. There have been more times that I can count when I had a problem, and remembered that someone mentioned the same thing way back when. On CIS if the message had scrolled off the board, you were SOL, *unless* you had OzWin. With OZ, you just do a search, and find it. Same is true here now too!

You *BETTER* give me more detail and plan on getting together while you're here! I'll ding ya via email.
