From AVweb:

One week ago, at 83 years of age, Col. Francis Gabreski passed on due to a heart attack. Gabreski flew a P-47 and had downed 31 enemy aircraft by the end of World War II. Flying an F-86 during the Korean conflict, he raised his
tally to 37.5 air victories. By the time of his retirement from the Air Force in 1967, Gabreski had flown 266 combat missions, more than any other U.S. pilot, and was the highest-ranking living U.S. ace.
