""MIndate"???"
01-22-03, 18:35z

Can one of youse geniuses out there tell me exactly HOW one should use
the MINDATE routine? I know that the function is described in the HELP
file and what it is supposed to do. But I didn't see any information on HOW
one should use the function.

I can see what its effects are during the log-in cycle. But I wonder how often
and when the MINDATE date should be changed.

Any hints out there?

Regards to all from the Chief Lurker

Greetings Norm:

> Can one of youse geniuses

You must be referring to Guido and Vic. Today's Vic's birthday, so there may be a delayed reply due to excessive partying. :)

The MINDATE feature was created to help those that don't log in regularly or are away for a long period of time and are faced with a huge download of backlogged messages when they return. Setting the MINDATE to something closer to the present date will restrict downloaded messages to those that are dated after the MINDATE setting.

Hey Norm!

Glad to hear from you.

Ben pretty much described what the "mindate' is for. The OLR will not download any messages posted prior to the mindate. In normal use, after the initial setup, you don't need to change it if you check in on a regular basis. If you were away for a while and didn't want a long download of missed messages, you could set the mindate forward and only download from that date forward.

HTH,

Vic

Of course, I could be wrong. I thought I was wrong once before, but I was mistaken.

sorry for being late with the reply. To be precise, the
decision isn't made based on articles, but on threads. If
a thread hasn't been changed after "mindate" it will not be
considered for download. If it contains at least one article
posted after "mindate", the whole thread will be downloaded.

Regards,

Guido
