"ACARS problem"
01-23-02, 19:07z

Ben -

On this system at work, I seem to have a problem with ACARS.
When I click the ACARS button on main screen, the popup opens with a message " welcome back, vgbaron " and then closes. When I enter a message forum the acars doesn't popup at all.

This does not happen on my other system at home. Any thoughts as to where I might look for the problem?

Thanx,

vic

The problem is you're not accepting the cookie on your work machine. We currently make it an option ("remember me when I log on again" option or something like that). I've been debating whether to make the acceptance of the cookie the default.

Perhaps I should back up a bit--the way we have the system setup is the member logs on and gets the cookie. The system looks for the cookie and pulls the user's info from the corresponding file on our server. If you don't accept the cookie, there's no file to pull up.

One of the concerns about security and cookies was that if the user (like yourself) logs on from another computer (we were thinking more along the lines of a public computer), the cookie would remain on that system UNLESS the user logged off first.

I really don't think that's much of a problem really because the cookie times out in 24 hours, and all users should log off ANY site that is accessed from a public computer as a matter of course and due diligence. Finally, since our email accounts use different passwords, etc., that'll remain secure regardless of how sloppy one gets on the message board. So I don't give much credence to the cookie/security issue, but we haven't enabled/disabled the cookie option yet. But that may change very shortly... :)

Hope this explains it.
Ben
