Hi Vic

Thanks for that headsup. "Summer" is earlier than I remember.

No mention of regional accents in the ATC.

Carping already :-)

Hi Frank,

<<No mention of regional accents in the ATC.>>

Are you surprised? I'm not. If you want a decent alternative to the MS ATC try Radar Contact v3. You even get my voice as a controller and I've also recently made available ATC recordings at Manchester which add a great deal to the realism.

How is RCv3? I d/l'ed it last night, but haven't installed it yet. I'm not sure whether I need the "Service Pack" as well to install it. It certainly seems like it could be great for virtual air traffic controller duty.

Hi Ben,

<<How is RCv3? >>

A big improvement on v2.2. It now runs via a stand-alone executable rather than via an adventure so is a lot more flexible. It can detect (but not control) other AI aircraft, accept altitude change requests, divert to an alternate airport and you can declare an emergency. Too much to mention here!

The controller does a pretty good job too. You can record your own voice set (1100+ wavs though) and add to the fun. Go ahead and install, you won't be disappointed.

HI Guy's,

Just read the heads up Ray. RC v3 isn't downloadable - CD Version Only @ $34 US for previous version registered users only!! $44 US for first timers.

Personally I feel that a lot of these add on developers etc, are getting into a very strong habit of ripping folk off!! My personal view mind you, but, a strong one <G>.

Hi James,

The reason it isn't downloadable is because it fills one CD - close to 600MB. the developers felt, quite rightly in my opinion, that it should only be released on CD.

It is a complete rewrite and now runs as a VB program - not as an adventure as was the case with v2.

As for "ripping folk off". Your words not mine and I'm afraid, on this occasion at least, I can't agree with you. I think it's a very good program and has been fully tested prior to release. Something other developers would do well to follow.

Hi Ray,

>> It is a complete rewrite and now runs as a VB program - not as an
adventure as was the case with v2. <<

Gathered that (sort of <s>) from the web site <G>

>> As for "ripping folk off". Your words not mine and I'm afraid, on this occasion at least, I can't agree with you. <<

At least we admit to agreeing in disagreeing <LOL> Putting it another way then, I would have thought that for those that have supported the programme from day one or even from V2 would get a better discount on V3 than what they are offering!! It's not just RC v3 that seems to be getting pricey, it's a lot of add ons. When you come to think about it, since FS2002 came out there wasn't a lot of add ons from FS98 and prior that would work in FS2002 hence, throw out £1,000's of pounds worth of add ons that are defunked in FS2002 and start all over. Paying near enough full whack prices for the same add on but either revamped or rewritten (same thing nearly).

Another gripe I have about the so called discount they are offering now is you get till the end of the month to order/buy or pay the full price!! What IF some one who already has V2 or earlier want the programme BUT haven't the funds to buy it there and then or by the end of the month!!! Theres a certain word or two comes to mind over that but, this is also a kids show to <G> so will refrain.

>> I think it's a very good program and has been fully tested prior to release. Something other developers would do well to follow. <<

I think so to and would hope it to be fully tested, saves wasting time on downloading tons of patch's <s>. I would have probably purchased it again but due to their time frame I doubt it as I have my eye on a few other bits and pieces which at this time are more important, shame......

Hi James,

<<I would have thought that for those that have supported the programme from day one or even from V2 would get a better discount on V3 than what they are offering!!>>

Yes, I tend to agree but because the platform was changed it was fully rewritten which, if you're a programmer, can be just as time-consuming as starting again. That alone would have upped the price. I didn't know about the time-limited offer which I can't agree with.

Never mind this time. Microsoft have probably scuppered RC's lifespan by announcing an earlier-than-normal release of FS9.

Hi Ray,

The link that was posted gave the details/price etc so will have to keep an eye on it to see if they extend it, unfortunately, if they don't then bang goes a customer of a few versions <G>.

You know, your description just made me realize that we're talking about two different products. Sorry about that! The one I was thinking about/downloaded is called ATC Radar Screen v.3.0 -- which is a multiplayer utility that provides an ATC-style radar display of all of the aircraft in the multiplayer session. Sorry for the confusion.

Ben

You can download it from: http://www.joachimheimfeld.de/manuel/
You'll likely need to download and install sp1 as well. (You can find it at that site as well.) Yes, it's freeware.

It's really very good. Simple to use as well. We were using it last night and I was able to vector Vic on an approach in IMP (Vic had a NAV head failure) and he made it just fine.

What's perhaps most exciting is ATC Radar Screen interfaces with FSHost, so flight plans can be displayed to ATC. Throw in Roger Wilco, and our one-click launching system... I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about the possibilities!!

> Is it AIBridge?

I'm sorry. I don't know that that is, so I can't answer. What is AIBridge?

Hi Ben,

AIBridge is a little utility to run in conjunction with either a Multiplayer session or Squawkbox for TCAS display. It shows all other aircraft on your ND.

I see. While ATC Radar Screen shows other aircraft, it also shows airports (with taxiways and designations), airspace boundaries, and NAVAIDs. If you click on a target, it'll display the player name, aircraft type, heading altitude, flight plan, etc.. It's really pretty slick.

As you have the web site Ben you obviously know about Manuel's chart viewer, another good freeware program that shows airport layouts. Ideal when trying to taxi in the dark at most default airports as trying to the taxiway lights is a joke :-(

I just came across the announcement about FS9, due in July. It sounded pretty impressive. Is there anyone in this group who has had access to this program, and is at liberty to give us any more information about it? And does this mean that I now need to budget yet another computer upgrade in the coming months?

Hi William,

Sorry, can't shed any further light etc on this except that which is on the Official Microsoft Flight Sim web site. I doubt if you would get a response from any one with insight into this as Microsoft don't take lightly to folk breaking any NDA which will no doubt be in force.

Yep, I suspect the NDA's are in full force and effect. I was just wondering whether anyone could let us know whether the marketing hype on the MS website was somewhere near reality.
